A number of establishment, liberal journalists responded with smugness on Thursday’s Hardball to President Trump’s tweet earlier in the day that the Senate Intelligence Committee should investigate news organizations for spreading “Fake News.” As expected, they touted their supposedly strict standards and brushed aside claims of media bias as being aimed at undermining the Russia investigations.

Many persons have started thinking about President Trump’s re-election campaign. One, of course, is Trump himself. Another is lefty pundit Paul Waldman, who in a September 27 column for The Week argued that while recent approval ratings for Trump don’t augur well for his winning a second term, he might pull it off if he cribs from Karl Rove’s 2004 playbook.

Along with the Las Vegas shooting and Puerto Rico, Thursday’s White House press briefing featured a litany of questions about morning tweets by President Trump requesting the Senate Intelligence Committee investigate journalists for their “Fake News.” Needless to say, CNN’s Jim Acosta led the way in showing his profession’s displeasure.
