Ellen Thanks Bernie Sanders for ‘Damn E-Mails’ Comment; ‘Exact Thing That People Are Sick of’

October 15th, 2015 11:55 PM

Liberal celebrity talk show host Ellen DeGeneres continued to dismiss Hillary Clinton’s e-mail scandal during her eponymous show on Thursday as she repeatedly thanked socialist Senator and Clinton opponent Bernie Sanders for railing in the Democratic debate against the attention devoted to Clinton’s “damn e-mails.”

I'll tell you, I think what you said about Hillary and the emails, you said this may not be political, and I think that's the exact thing that people are sick of is people being political,” exclaimed DeGeneres moments after Sanders joined her for a softball-filled interview.

Describing it prior to his entrance as “the best moment of the night,” DeGeneres told Sanders that “a lot of people like you a lot” and wished that more elected officials were like him in that “people just need to hear you say what you feel.”

After Sanders told her that he’s never run a negative campaign ad in his career, DeGeneres again complimented him for that as it’s something else “I love...about you” before broadening her gooey love note to the entire Democratic field (at the predictable expense of Republicans): “I don’t think it was mentioned during the debate that the Republican debates would not have gone this way. There's a lot of attacking, a lot of bullying, and I love the fact that it was very positive.”

DeGeneres eventually circled back to attacking the GOP by asking Sanders how he would act if he became president and, like President Obama, faced a situation where “[e]veryone shuts you down” because “[y]ou have all these ideas” but won’t let you enact them (thanks to a thing called Congress).

When she alluded to the rosy belief that “everyone should have affordable health care,” Sanders interrupted her to denounce Americans who refer to themselves as Republicans: “Not everybody does agree. That's not what Republicans say. Let's be honest about that. So, I think most decent people and the majority, but not all. People who have the money, in fact, don't believe that.”

To tout the anti-GMO horn, DeGeneres turned from health care to urging him to focus on an issue that she believes has not received sufficient attention: “[T]here are so many ways also that we're ignoring the food industry, that we know we're getting sick from certain things that we should not be eating...There are certain ways we should be living that would be healthier as a nation.”

The outburst from DeGeneres on Clinton’s e-mail scandal comes just over a month after Clinton herself appeared on her September 10 show to which the talk show host told the former secretary of state that she didn’t believe Clinton needs to answer questions about it because “[t]hey have not found a thing.”

ELLEN DEGENERES: The Democratic presidential debate was a couple of nights ago and a lot of people say our first guest had the best moment of the night when he said this.

INDEPENDENT SENATOR BERNIE SANDERS (Vt.): Let me say –  let me say something that may not be great politics, but I think the secretary's right and that is, that the American people are sick and tired of hearing about your damn emails.

HILLARY CLINTON: Thank you. Me, too. Me, too.

SANDERS: Enough of the damn emails. Let's talk about the real issues facing America.

(....)

DEGENERES: Yeah, a lot of people like you a lot. A lot of people are talking about you and like you a whole lot and I'll tell you, I think what you said about Hillary and the emails, you said this may not be political, and I think that's the exact thing that people are sick of is people being political. I think people just need to hear you say what you feel.

SANDERS: I think that's absolutely right. I think, Ellen, you hit the nail on the head and I will tell you, I've been in many, many campaigns in my political life and I'm proud to say, I've never ran a negative ad in my life and I've been attacked a lot.

DEGENERES: Yeah and I love that about you because I don’t think it was mentioned during the debate that the Republican debates would not have gone this way. There's a lot of attacking, a lot of bullying, and I love the fact that it was very positive.

(....)

DEGENERES: But are you – let's say you get into the White House. Let’s say you’re president, how are you – I mean, Obama has been up against the same thing. Everyone shuts you down. You have all these ideas and I think everyone agrees that everyone should have affordable healthcare. Everyone should have affordable health care

SANDERS: Well, let me say that not everybody does agree. That's not what Republicans say. Let's be honest about that. So, I think most decent people and the majority, but not all. People who have the money, in fact, don't believe that.

DEGENERES: Okay, well, I believe that and I would hope that most people believe that and I think that there are so many ways also that we're ignoring the food industry, that we know we're getting sick from certain things that we should not be eating.

SANDERS: Absolutely.

DEGENERES: There are certain ways we should be living that would be healthier as a nation. Climate change, everything that’s happening – if you get in there, how do you make this happen? Cause everyone wants to stop that.
