Al Hunt did stop short of predicting something so horrible it could never happen in America--federal marshals armed with assault weapons hunting down children cowering in closets to forcibly return them to a Communist dictatorship. Oh, wait, that really did happen, under President Bill Clinton, when Elian Gonzalez was returned to Cuba at the point of a gun.
On today's Morning Joe, an Al Hunt on the verge of hysteria predicted that Donald Trump's immigration plan would lead to "federal raids on maternity wards." He claimed that implementing the plan would cost "11 trillion dollars," which assuming 11 million illegals in the country converts to $1 million each. Joe Scarborough chimed in to claim that "we don't have the money to do that."
We would argue that a country that doesn't have the money to secure its borders doesn't have the money to remain a country in any meaningful sense of the word.
UPDATE: Al has slashed the cost of Trump's plan! Appearing on this afternoon's With All Due Respect, Hunt twice stated that the plan would cost $600 billion--a 95% reduction from the $11 trillion he forecast on Morning Joe. Al Hunt for Treasury Secretary! With that kind of cost-cutting skill, he'd wipe out the deficit in no time!
AL HUNT: This is a disaster. At some point we have to quit saying Donald Trump has a plan, and say: what is the plan? The plan is worse than even worse than described. You could have federal raids on maternity wards, federal raids on Western Unions. Deporting 11 million people would devastate the American economy.
JOE SCARBOROUGH: By the way, we don't have the money to do that. We don't.
HUNT: Of course not. It would cost $11 trillion.
JOE: It would cost $11 trillion.
HUNT: Right.
