Salon Readies Polar Vortex Excuse in Case of Unusually Cold Winter

October 18th, 2014 10:02 PM

Heads we win, tails you lose. That pretty much sums up the attitude of the global warming alarmists.

Case in point is the polar vortex which was used by that crowd to explain away the unusually cold temperatures this past winter. And just in case this coming winter turns out to be very cold again, the same polar vortex excuse is being readied over at Salon. Of course, that excuse will only be used if the temperatures are quite low. However, if it turns out to be a mild temperature that will be cited as a result of...global warming. So let us see Salon give us the polar vortex as a result of global warming excuse again which will be inoperative if the winter weather is mild and also explained away as due to global warming:

Remember last year’s polar vortex? The record low temperatures? The steam rising from Lake Michigan? The water that froze mid-slosh?

It’s coming back.

AccuWeather reports:

Cold air will surge into the Northeast in late November, but the brunt of the season will hold off until January and February. The polar vortex, the culprit responsible for several days of below-zero temperatures last year, will slip down into the region from time to time, delivering blasts of arctic air.

“I think, primarily, we’ll see that happening in mid-January into February but again, it’s not going to be the same type of situation as we saw last year, not as persistent,” AccuWeather.com Expert Long-Range Forecaster Paul Pastelok said.

“The cold of last season was extreme because it was so persistent. We saw readings that we haven’t seen in a long time: 15- to 20-below-zero readings.”

Snow accumulation is also expected to be higher than usual, with especially heavy hits to Philadelphia and New York City.

This is in stark contrast to USA Today which reports that there will be no polar vortex this winter:

Remember the polar vortex? It may be a distant memory this winter after federal forecasters said Thursday that a repeat of last year's extremely cold and snowy weather east of the Rockies is "unlikely."

The winter weather forecast released Thursday morning from meteorologists at the Climate Prediction Center said the western part of the U.S. should stay warm, while a cooler and wetter-than-average winter is likely across the southern tier of the nation.

The winter shouldn't be as nasty as last year because the persistent, large-scale atmospheric climate patterns that caused the cold last winter are "really unlikely to form," said Mike Halpert, acting director of the prediction center in College Park, Md.

In that case Salon will attribute the mild winter to global warming but if the USA Today forecast is wrong and the winter is quite cold...hey, no problem. Salon already has their excuse waiting in the wings...polar vortex due to global warming. No matter what the outcome of the winter weather it will always be due to global warming.
