'Where's Officer Wilson?' CNN.com Headline Demands

In the center of CNN.com's front page right now is a headline demanding, "Where's Officer Wilson?" "As Ferguson calmed after nights of protests over the fatal shooting of an unarmed black teen, the question remains: Where's the police officer who pulled the trigger?" a caption below a file photo of Wilson added.

Yes, now that things have calmed down and returned to normal, what's the harm in stoking outrage about a "missing" police officer who hasn't been charged with a crime. Here's how CNN.com's Fatih Karimi and Michael Pearson opened their August 22 story:

(CNN) -- As the St. Louis suburb of Ferguson calmed early Friday after nights of protests over the fatal shooting of an unarmed black teen, the question remains: Where's the police officer who pulled the trigger?

Officer Darren Wilson, 28, shot Michael Brown on August 9. The shooting sparked days of violent protests in Ferguson as residents demanded his arrest.

Separate federal and local investigations are under way, and Wilson -- who has received death threats -- has disappeared from public view.

Here's what is known about his whereabouts.

Karimi and Pearson then devoted 20 paragraphs to tackling the following 6 questions:

  • Where is he now?
  • What are his neighbors saying about his whereabouts?
  • Any trails on social media?
  • Has he contacted his friends?
  • What is the police department saying?
  • What's next for him?
