ABC’s “The View” joined the media mob in taking on New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie. Host Whoopi Goldberg opened the show by stating that Christie was holding a press conference over “a top aide who allegedly conspired to shut down lanes and cause crippling traffic jams on the George Washington bridge as political retribution for not supporting the governor.”
What Goldberg did not expect as she complained that "people died" in the traffic jam was Chris Harrison, host of ABC’s “The Bachelor,” shooting back that “the liberals are just foaming at the mouth...this is like porn for them!” [See video below. MP3 audio here.]
Goldberg explained that Christie would begin a press conference any minute, but went from a smile to a snarl as she complained about the lost time and money of (politically motivated) traffic jams:
WHOOPI GOLDBERG: I’m tellin’ you, man – [pointing at the camera] I’m sending you guys all the money [the bill?] that you cost me, and all of the money that you cost us, trying to get to work!
SHERRI SHEPHERD: And now every time I’m trying to cross the GW Bridge, I’m goin’ – “Is Christie behind this? What’s goin’ on?” It’s some kind of conspiracy.
CHRIS HARRISON: It’s great political theater. It's great political theater.
JENNY McCARTHY: I know. I can’t wait to see what happens.
SHEPHERD: You know, before everybody thought he was the superhero...Everybody thought he was going to run for president. I don’t know if this is going to mess him up.
GOLDBERG: I think he's still going to run. But come on, grow up, you guys! So you ruin – because you're pissed at one guy because he didn't get behind you, you really mmmm-ake so many people suff -- people died because of this!
HARRISON: Wait, wait, wait! We don’t know! No, no, no, wait. Let's back up. First of all, the liberals are just foaming at the mouth. They couldn’t – This is like porn for them. They're so excited to finally get at this guy, which we don't know anything about! [Crosstalk]
GOLDBERG: ...That's why I said come on you guys, because we do know that there were guys who work for him who were involved in this. You know?
HARRISON: But literally, some of the networks are accusing him of murder already. It's like “Easy, big fella!” Easy!
GOLDBERG: But you know what? A lot of stuff went down because of this and a lot of people were really put out.
After talk about how the politics here weren’t smart, Harrison shot back: “What in politics is a smart thing? None of them are smart. If they were smart, they’d have real jobs.” Goldberg shot back: “This was particularly horrific.” Harrison replied: “It’s great theater today.”
The Bergen Record reported Wednesday that "Emergency responders were delayed in attending to four medical situations – including one in which a 91-year-old woman lay unconscious – due to traffic gridlock caused by unannounced closures of access lanes to the George Washington Bridge, according to the head of the borough’s EMS department. The woman later died, borough records show."
That's what led CNN anchor Ashleigh Banfield (not exactly a "big fella") to blurt out loud that prosecutors should dangle a murder charge in front of Christie aides.
