Conan O'Brien on Tuesday appeared to want to make up for Bob Schieffer accidentally saying Obama bin Laden during Monday's presidential debate.
To compensate, he referred to Romney as "Adolf Mittler" (video follows with transcribed highlights and commentary):
Early in his opening monologue, O’Brien said, “That was some debate. If you didn't see it, let me talk about if for a few minutes to alienate you.”
“You know what's crazy?” he continued. “At one point during the debate last night, moderator Bob Schieffer accidentally said 'Obama bin Laden.' Yeah, it was right after he called Romney 'Adolf Mittler.' That's true. True story.”
However, mistaking Obama and Osama has been rather common since the junior senator from Illinois threw his name into the presidential ring in February 2007.
After all, the error requires the substitution of one letter for another into a far more commonly used name up to that point in history.
By contrast, how many times have you heard anyone accidentally call Romney Adolf Mittler?
Yeah – that’s what I thought.
