Joe Scarborough has suggested that Clint Eastwood was drunk when he gave his RNC speech.
Today's Morning Joe opened with a clip of Mitt Romney telling David Gregory that it was a thrill to have Eastwood speak on his behalf at the RNC, and that he felt Eastwood spoke "from the heart." Scarborough came on and said that rather than speaking from the heart, Eastwood spoke more "from the bottom of a bottle." View the video after the jump.
The notion that Clint was under the influence never crossed the mind of this NewsBuster, who was in the hall during Eastwood's speech. What do those who viewed at home think of the matter?
Watch Scarborough make his suggestion.
DAVID GREGORY: A lot of attention to, beside yourself, big headliner on your final night, and that was Clint Eastwood . . . Were you laughing along with him or were you wincing part of the time, Governor?
MITT ROMNEY: Oh, I was laughing at Clint Eastwood. Look, to have him get up and speak in my behalf was a great thrill. I mean, this was a guy Ann and I have watched from back in the days of "The Good, The Bad and The Ugly." He's an American icon and hero, and --
GREGORY: -- but it was a little bizarre, wasn't it, to have him talking to the chair?
ROMNEY: You don't expect to have a guy like Clint Eastwood get up and read some speech off a teleprompter like a politician. You expect him to speak from the heart, and that's exactly what he did.
Back on the Morning Joe set . . .
JOE SCARBOROUGH: I don't know if he spoke from the heart. More from the bottom of a bottle.
