Actually, President Bush first warned Saddam Hussein about letting weapons inspectors back into Iraq in November 2001, two months after 9-11. The United Nations Security Council approved Resolution 1441, which gave Iraq "a final opportunity to comply with its disarmament obligations under relevant resolutions of the Council," in November 2002. Operation Iraqi Freedom launched on March 21, 2003, 16 months after Bush's initial warning. That's hardly a "bomb first, think later" timeline.
Speaking by satellite to the American Israel Public Affairs Committee conference here, Romney outpandered himself.
“I will station multiple aircraft carriers and warships at Iran’s door,” he said as if he were playing Risk. Not afraid to employ “military might” (or alarming alliteration), Romney wrote a blank check to Bibi Netanyahu, who governs a nation roiling with reactionary strains, ultra-Orthodox attacks on women and girls and attempts at gender segregation, and increasing global intolerance of the 45-year Palestinian occupation....I’d also feel better if war was not being mongered by the same warmongers who drew us into a decade of futile, bloody, expensive and draining battles.
Again, a Times writer applies a higher standard to Israeli behavior than she does to its hostile, reactionary neighbors.
