Popular Science reported Tuesday:
Unlike [George] Lucas’ more playful science fiction epic ["Star Wars"], [James] Cameron reaches for a heavy environmental message. Avatar is every militant global warming supporter’s dream come true as the invading, technology-worshiping, environment-ravaging humans are set upon by an angry planet and its noble inhabitants.
In an interview with "The Hollywood Reporter," Cameron refuted this sentiment...or did he? (video embedded below the fold with partial transcript):
Well, anybody that would say it was a $300 -- first of all, it's not $300 million, at whatever price tag -- it's a PSA for global warming, um, obviously Republican. You know. But anyway, you know, look, there, there is a theme. I don't want to say a message, cause it's not beating it over the head. There's a theme, and I think it's a theme that's a legitimate one. It's one that I care very passionately about, and by the way, I think if we want to survive as a species we better all start caring about it.
Hmmm. So only Republicans would claim it's a PSA for global warming...but Cameron didn't disagree, did he?
