On Wednesday’s Morning Joe, the premier liberal morning program on MS NOW once again went after ICE, this time in defense of the described “DoorDash driver” shot by ICE in Texas who is now charged with assaulting an ICE officer. Host Joe Scarborough proclaimed “ICE lies” and gave no credence to ICE’s claims, and claimed they do not wear body cameras.
Later, the show connected immigration enforcement under Trump, which was labeled as “cruelty,” to the Jordan Neely NYC Subway Case and Daniel Penny's acquittal, which was a big media story in 2024.
After a report from MS NOW’s David Noriega, Scarborough began his ICE bashing:

Mika, this happens time and time again. ICE lies. The government lies about these people who are victims of shootings.
He then remembered the case of Renee Good in Minneapolis before he became an expert on police protocol: “Talk to any NYPD officer who will tell you you don't shoot at moving cars. You don't do that. They keep doing it.”
Scabarough then connected the case to the midtemrs and attacks on moderate Republican Maine Senator Susan Collins, who is currently in a reelection battle: “Their body cameras aren't turned on. This happened in Maine. I love Susan Collins, as you were saying, to keep defending this type of behavior where they killed a young man, a father, a beloved husband, a hard worker. They killed a grandfather in Houston, Texas.”
The entire Morning Joe crew joined in to hit Collins on her vote for the “Big Beautiful Bill,” and claimed the body cams she pushed for were not being used:
SCARBOROUGH: Did Susan Collins vote for that?
BRZEZINSKI: Yes she did. She voted for the money for ICE.
GEIST: But she got body cams.
SCARBOROUGH: Yeah, but no.
Brezinski, continuing to connect the case to Collins, also said, “Well, actually, in this case, there was no body cam.” Scarborough followed, “No, they don’t wear the body cam,” to which Brezinski responded, “That money is not being used, I guess, for body cams”
Notably, the image used in the Department of Justice filing against the “DoorDash driver” for allegedly assaulting ICE used an image from a body cam of some kind, according to FOX News’s Bill Melugin.

Later, Scarborough called ICE “un-American” before Brzezinski exclaimed, “And I don't know how we I don't know how all of our hearts aren't breaking every day as this happens,” and desired the construction of ICE detention centers.
Scarborough then said, “More internment camps!”
As the ICE discussion came to a close, Brzezinski turned to connect the case of the “broken norms” and “cruelty” of immigration enforcement under Trump to the Jordan Neely New York Subway case in day three in their discussion about Daniel Penny, the man acquitted in Neely’s death. The Neely segment followed two previous days that painted Penny as “dehumanizing” Neely due to language Penny used during interrogations.
Add Neely to the bad historical comparisons Morning Joe constantly makes of ICE to things like the KKK, along with Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union.

SCARBOROUGH: She chased people into a snowbank or hit cops in snowbanks. Just a total lie. They lied about Alex Pretti in what looked to a lot of people like an execution style murder in the streets of Minneapolis. Their lying about - again. they're lying about another shooting in Texas. As you know, they shoot five times into a car. Talk to any NYPD officer who will tell you you don't shoot at moving cars. You don't do that. They keep doing it.
Their body cameras aren't turned on. This happened in Maine. I love Susan Collins, as you were saying, to keep defending this type of behavior where they killed a young man, a father, a beloved husband, a hard worker. They killed a grandfather in Houston, Texas.
They shot this man five times in the back, again, a worker, a DoorDash worker. I wonder what Ken Paxton is going to say on the campaign trail about this when he's finished blaming Donald Trump for his low approval numbers? I mean, it's just like, and now reports that they're going to go on a hiring spree in the coming months.
WILLIE GEIST: 5000 new agents by December.
SCARBOROUGH: Because there's not enough chaos on American streets already.
BRZEZINSKI: They have a lot of money thanks to the big ugly bill that was.
SCARBOROUGH: Did Susan Collins vote for that?
BRZEZINSKI: Yes she did. She voted for the money for ice.
GEIST: But she got body cams.
SCARBOROUGH: Yeah, but no.
BRZEZINSKI: She - No. Well, actually, in this case, there was no body cam.

BRZEZINSKI: People who stay there for months and months, and thousands of people who then get sent to countries, they don't even have any connection to, just dumped there. I mean, the list goes on of abuses and laws broken, norms broken, and cruelty, which actually goes right into our next story perfectly –
SCARBOROUGH: It really does.
BRZEZINSKI: — because of the division that this is creating, the fear that this is creating the terror that this is creating, and also the hatred this is promulgating. So, we go back now to our ongoing discussion of the new book from MS NOW political analyst Anand Giridharadas. It's titled Man in the Mirror: Hope, Struggle, and Belonging in an American City. It traces the story of the 2023 subway death of Jordan Neely, a homeless man with a history of mental illness, after another passenger, Daniel Penny, put him in a chokehold to subdue Neely when he was acting erratic in an apparent mental health crisis. Penny was charged in the death and was later acquitted.
