NewsBusters Podcast: Our Fragile Press Can Dish It Out, But Can't Take It

December 2nd, 2025 8:38 AM

The Washington Post and others were upset when the White House created a new web page to name a worst "Media Offender of the Week." How dare they call us "misleading" and "biased" and challenge the "rigorous" journalism of the elitist media!

Associate editor Nick Fondacaro and senior research analyst/video editor Bill D'Agostino joined the show.

The Post gave this the headline “Trump ramps up reporter attacks with White House media bias tracker.” We have a rejoinder: “The Washington Post ramps up attacks on president.” Daily.

They act like they never attack anyone. Post media reporter Scott Nover described the page as “devoted to naming and shaming media outlets and reporters that publish stories it disagrees with.” It’s not just about disagreement. Yes, the president disagrees when you “report” he is a Nazi or the Russians installed him in office.

To the Post, the best journalism is the most vicious anti-Trump journalism, with Nover trotting out a Post "spokesperson" to express: “The Washington Post is proud of its accurate, rigorous journalism." But an extreme anti-Trump animus can lead to reckless and abusive coverage, and that’s often what appears in the paper that’s still revered for taking down Richard Nixon.

Plus: You won't believe Jim Acosta's new boycott idea.

On MS NOW’s Velshi, guest host Charles Coleman asked Acosta about Trump being rude to female reporters. Typically,  liberal journalists think you can exhibit maximum rudeness to Trump – like calling him Hitler – but he is not allowed to be rude in return. But Acosta’s strategy in response – for the anti-Trump press to stop covering Trump until he behaves – would be a huge win for the White House. But we suspect that since he's no longer in the White House press corps, it's easy for him to tell everyone else to walk away.

Then we discussed other issues, like the breaking-news coverage of the shooting of two National Guard members, which Curtis Houck was posting in real time. MS NOW was busy lamenting that National Guard uniforms were somehow triggering, and wondering if the National Guard will refuse to obey Trump.

George Conway was a guest on Saturday's edition of The Weekend on MS NOW. Conway has announced that he is thinking of running for Congress in New York’s 12th Congressional District—one of the most liberal districts in the country – as a Democrat. So naturally, host Eugene Daniels introduced Conway as a "conservative" lawyer. When will they stop with this absurd charade?

On Friday's CNN NewsNight with Abby Phillip, Katie Miller, the wife of White House aide Stephen Miller, confronted Phillip for not defending her husband when Jennifer Welch called him a white supremacist and a 'Nazi Jew' on a podcast where Phillip was a guest in October. Phillip's response was, "Well look, I can't, I can't speak to what Stephen Miller's motivations are." She expects the Republicans to cast out their haters, but she won’t do it. Welch appears on her show without fuss.
