NewsBusters Podcast: Bitter Tears for Trump, Bizarre Spin for Biden

January 20th, 2025 10:13 PM

On Inauguration Day, we are already chronicling the bitter media tears that Donald Trump the 'Fascist Threat to Democracy' is coming in and Joe Biden has to be nice to him. Even last-minute pardons for influence-peddling Biden family members was given a bizarrely positive spin.

Our so-called "mainstream media" hate GOP inaugurations, and they can’t help but overflow with excitement when Democrats win.

Just minutes before Trump took the oath, Joseph Vazquez found Rachel Maddow reading some Breaking News, or let’s call it a Breaking Press release. Joe Biden saved for his last act pre-emptively pardoning family members not named Hunter: his brothers Jim and Frank, and his sister Valerie, among others. But the average news watcher has no idea who any of these relatives are, because the media didn't care about any of them peddling the Biden name for money.

This is the funny part, this soft intonation of Biden claiming ‘My family has been subjected to unrelenting attacks and threats motivated solely by a desire to hurt me, the worst kind of partisan politics.’” Our main point is Biden’s DOJ was always treated as nonpartisan, which is ridiculous. And now they are deathly afraid that Trump’s DOJ will have a fraction of the prosecutorial aggression of Biden’s DOJ.

Curtis Houck is tweeting up a storm of videos, as usual. On ABC, they were saying hey, the billionaires are at the swearing-in, but not the common man! Terry Moran asked: "Will the American people, the forgotten men and women, will they be the beneficiary of this administration?" This is nothing new. In 2005, the same Terry Moran announced: “President Bush prepares for his second inauguration. In a time of war and natural disaster, is it time for a lavish celebration?” Terry Moran proclaimed in February of 2009: "Barack Obama is the first President since George Washington to be taking a step down into the Oval Office."

ABC turned to Washington Post reporter Mary Jordan, who declared that “people” – and that’s how liberals describe themselves – “people” have enormous discomfort over the current state of checks and balances. ABC anchor David Muir murmured yes, ahem, accountability, that’s what we need. This means liberals are out of power, so democracy is dying in darkness. But if the Democrats held both houses of Congress and had a 6-3 majority at the SCOTUS, I think we know they wouldn’t worry about checks and balances. Democracy would be flowering like the cherry blossoms in a DC springtime.

On Morning Joe, MSNBC’s Ali Vitali was worrying about the lack of guardrails, talking about how complicated it is that Biden’s going to be civil and welcoming to a Fascist Threat to Democracy today, in the interests of democracy, or something like that. The weirdest part is Vitali suggesting Biden did so much to "bring back normalcy." What? Again, this is pretending that all of the aggressive lawfare somehow matches a back-to-normalcy narrative instead of a Shattering All the Norms narrative.

Speaking of MSNBC, Mark Finkelstein put this one on the list this morning, doing some kind of twisted homily about how Trump’s inauguration is like John Belushi in Animal House giving the pep talk about the "Germans" bombing pearl harbor.  MSNBC analyst Matthew Dowd compared Trump voters to whites who were okay with slavery during the Civil War. They'll mangle any historical spin to smear Trump and his voters, even on Inauguration Day.
