The left is still early into the multiple stages of grief resulting from the election of Donald Trump as the 47th President of the United States. The most recent panel discussion on CNN’s NewsNight with Abby Phillips put that post-electoral Trump derangement for the whole world to see.
Consider this exchange as the panel discussed the appointment of Susie Wiles as White House Chief of Staff, how the panelists just veer off into January 6th, and how Jennings HANDLES Catherine Rampell of The Washington Post (click “expand” to view the relevant portions of the transcript):

SCOTT JENNINGS: Just to go back to Susie (Wiles) for a second. The fact that he got to this first, and the fact that she is going to have influence over how the rest of the transition unfolds whether it’s picking Attorney General or any of these other high-level positions. I think- I think we ought to all look at this as a wise decision, a good decision, and for everybody out there wanting Trump to pivot or change or somehow- whatever you want him to do...
CATHERINE RAMPELL: Respect the rule of law.
JENNINGS: You just won a mandate from the American people to execute on the program that he laid out in this election. It wasn't particularly close. And I think you ought to put people in place who are going to do it. That’s what the people asked for
RAMPELL: Who will go after his enemies? I mean, that’s- that’s-
JENNINGS: That’s not what he ran on.
(CROSSTALK)
RAMPELL: He said in the past week- he literally said that he was going to exact vengeance.
JENNINGS: You still don't understand how you lost. He ran on immigration…
RAMPELL: Don’t say me. I’m not a Democrat. I’m a journalist.
…
JULIE ROGINSKY: Scott, if you believe that people who violated the Capitol on January 6th committed a crime, which I hope you would because they weren’t invited in the way they claim they were, right? They were not there- didn’t go through security the way the rest of us have to to get into the Capitol. They were prosecuted. They were convicted. And now they are serving jail time. He has said repeatedly that they are political prisoners and he is going to spring them, right? What does that tell you about how he is going to weaponize the Justice Department, and on whose behalf? On behalf of people who committed crimes for him. For him. Not for anybody else.
RAMPELL: I mean, I admire your- I didn't know if I want to call it your naiveté or optimism that Trump is going to run on the policies you care about, about deregulation and tax cuts and whatnot. That‘s just not what his campaign was about. That’s not what he has indicated he’s going to do…
JENNINGS: Well. With all due respect, I’ve run more campaigns than you and I know what campaigns are about and I know why people walk into voting booths and you’re totally wrong.
RAMPELL: Why walk into voting booths and what Trump plans to do when handed the presidency are two different things.
Then there's this exchange with comic Pete Dominick who, based on his performance, appears to be a Regime comic. That is, unfunny and preachy. Jennings had to stop and thoroughly SCHOOL Dominick over the exact moment in which President Joe Biden’s polls began to crater: the disastrous pullout from Afghanistan (click “expand” to view transcript):
Comic @PeteDominick has a meltdown when confronted by @ScottJenningsKY and @coldxman with the reality of Joe Biden's disastrous Afghanistan pullout pic.twitter.com/YOAC2fAAoE
— Jorge Bonilla (@BonillaJL) November 8, 2024
PETE DOMINICK: I just came from an event where I was hosting this event tonight for Iraq and Afghanistan veterans of America. And I love how people just tuned in to care about veterans during the pullout like that was, like, the worst, it---
ABBY PHILLIP: I just have to say- Seth Moulton is a veteran.
DOMINICK: I understand. And I think that the idea that Joe Biden had the courage to do what no other president, including Barack Obama who surged in Afghanistan, and those- how was it-13 or 16 people who died in that . Thousands of other veterans died as a result of Republican policies. These were Republican policies, these wars. So I- mean a lot of people feel that way about that horrible day in Afghanistan- and things around it- but-
PHILLIP: It did create, though- there was a drop in support that they never…
(CROSSTALK)
JENNINGS: Look. Look. If you look at the arc of the Biden presidency, he was in really good shape until August of 2021. When Afghanistan happened he went under 40, she went under 40 and they lived there until the end of the presidency. He’s still there.
DOMINICK: Why? Why?
JENNINGS: Because he ran and told us that the adults were back in charge. And that was the opposite.
DOMINICK: They were. Because Donald Trump is a child.
JENNINGS: And you know what else? And you know what else? The fact that they would not give these 13 service members' families the time of day.
DOMINICK: Bullshit, dude. I am sorry, but Donald Trump hates veterans. He called them “suckers and losers”. He did. He absolutely despised- he has his whole life. HE has his entire life.
JENNINGS: I know you are super emotional. I just-
DOMINICK: Of course I am. I’m terrified.
JENNINGS: I’m telling you. The political reality is that when they made the decision…
DOMINICK: It doesn’t matter.
(CROSSTALK)
DOMINICK: …deny a man, Chief John Kelly, a Marine, you deny- you say he lied…
JENNINGS: You’re still campaigning. It’s over, brother.
DOMINICK: It’s not over. It’ll never be over. You wish.
CROSSTALK)
JENNINGS: The political reality is, when they made that decision and everyone realized, “Oh, my gosh, These aren’t the competent adults that we were promised…
DOMINICK: Oh yeah, Donald Trump does. Right.
JENNINGS: And then, when you pile on top of it the decisions that made inflation worse, it was a compounding interest of political crap over time that they could never get out of. And that's how she lost the race.
COLEMAN HUGHES: There was a bipartisan consensus to get out of Afghanistan. That wasn’t the point. It’s the way it was done.
(CROSSTALK)
HUGHES: It was the implementation. It was the fact they took out our soldiers first instead of last, which is- you think would be common sense. And again, it’s like you said. We thought the adults were in the room. That’s why people voted for Biden. A return to normalcy. Return to competence. He’s a lifelong public servant. We thought, “we’re going to get normal, we’re going to get competence.
DOMINICK: We did.
HUGHES: And that’s what- that’s what it’s about.
DOMINICK: We did. And if- the veterans’ community
HUGHES: Afghanistan doesn’t signal that. Afghanistan-
DOMINICK: The wars- the wars in Afghanistan, war in Iraq, the Republican policies that led to those wars- the idea that Joe Biden made the final, difficult decision- and his administration- and his military leaders. I think you guys live on the tippy-top of Bullshit Mountain if you actually think that so many people think that the pullout of Afghanistan was the pivot point? Are you kidding me?
I regret to inform you that the pullout of Afghanistan was, in fact, the pivot point wherein the American people lost confidence in the Biden Administration.
There is no disputing the point that @ScottJenningsKY made last night on @abbydphillip about the moment Biden's approval cratered. The last time Biden's approval was above water in the RCP average was 8/19/21, a full week before the Abbey Gate bombing. pic.twitter.com/oF3b1chNhR

It got so salty and petty that the panel wouldn’t even let Jennings do his final word on Generation X delivering the election to Donald Trump (click “expand” to view full transcript):
.@ScottJenningsKY so thoroughly broke the panel that they jumped in to rebut his "Gen X returned Trump to The White House" take pic.twitter.com/AAGUeB1OS5
— Jorge Bonilla (@BonillaJL) November 8, 2024
JENNINGS: Well, here’s some truth. Gen X has delivered Donald Trump to The White House. My people, who came before the internet- you people, too. Before we bubble-wrapped society. We shrug off most things. We aren’t sure why everyone is offended by everything. We’re all Hulkamaniacs. We took the reins of this election…
DOMINICK: No.
RAMPELL: No, we’re not.
JENNINGS: …to steer America back on track and out of the BS. We love rebels, we love innovators, we love disruptors. Does this sound like anyone you know? From Gen X, the message is clear: we’re not putting up with it anymore, so you are welcome, America.
PHILLIP: All right, lots of disagreement.
DOMINICK: You don’t speak for Gen X. I prefer Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat and any wrestler who’s not Donald Trump. Hulk Hogan used the “N” word, just to say…
Performances like these are what have earned Jennings his reputation as the human version of the cat in the salad meme, and have fueled grassroots calls for his appointment as White House Press Secretary. One thing’s for sure: “Lonely Scott” sure has made CNN more interesting.
