Florida Republican Governor Ron DeSantis hasn’t even declared his bid for president in the 2024 election cycle and he has the liberal ladies of ABC’s The View shaking in their shoes. This was evident during Thursday’s show as they concocted all sorts of bizarre and brazenly false accusations to level against the popular governor. There were new claims of him banning mental health care for kids and banning “all learning” to the classics such as banning black history.
After playing some edited soundbites of DeSantis’s recent interview with Piers Morgan for Fox Nation, racist co-host Sunny Hostin proclaimed: “Whatever he does in Florida would not work on the national stage.” She huffed that drag queens couldn’t read or twerk for kids and falsely asserted that “people can randomly get guns everywhere” in Florida.
FACT CHECK: False. A person still needs to pass a background check to buy a gun in Florida. It’s mandated by federal law. And legal gun dealers still require an FFL.
“He’s sort of attacking our freedoms one by one by one,” Hostin claimed. She also took a swipe at DeSantis’s intelligence, chiding “I just can't understand if he is really smart because he’s certainly very educated and served in the military, or really dumb.”
Co-host Sarah Haines said that DeSantis was “really smart” because he’s “playing a card that he wants to appeal to people that would normally say, ‘Oh, you're one of those northeastern elites.’ So he’s playing it all down.”
Keeping with the theme of education, co-host Joy Behar then made the wildly false accusation that DeSantis “wants to take all learning away from people” if he becomes president. “Ban the books, don't talk about African American history, make everybody ignorant except for him and his elite squad,” she shouted. “That makes people more dangerous,” Hostin chimed in.
“Just because people have education [sic] doesn't mean they have any kind of real sense,” co-host Whoopi Goldberg had the nerve to say (or perhaps personal experience).
Goldberg proceeded to go on an unhinged rant shouting about how the Parental Rights in Education law DeSantis signed didn’t help parents but rather kept them from getting mental health resources and treatment for their kids:
The problem for me is I’ve listened to him now talk about what he's doing for all the families. And it occurred to me last night, you're not helping families avoid anything. You have made life harder for many families.
Because, if you have a little child who’s telling you, this is what they are seeing, this is what they’re feeling these parents aren't sitting around eating bonbons. They don't just take their kids -- they are with shrinks, they’re talking to everybody to see the best way. And what you’re doing is you’re making their jobs 10 times harder because now they can help their kid. They can take their child somewhere.
FACT CHECK: Misinformation. The law does no such thing and The View provided no evidence of where Goldberg got that misinformation from.
Her rant also dipped into the long-debunked accusation that DeSantis was trying to erase or “hide” (in this case) black history from students:
You’re trying to move history. Here's the bottom line. People know what's going on. You can hide it, you can put it down, you can do whatever. But the truth of the matter is, we have an issue in this country and it has to do with race. And kids are going to know it, because – because you are trying to hide it.
“So, dude, you’re not ready for America. You're not ready for this country yet. Because you haven't learned that we are a diverse nation,” Goldberg sneered. And if it meant anything significant, she concluded by noting, “I ain't voting for you.”

SUNNY HOSTIN: But whatever he [Governor Ron DeSantis (R)] does in Florida would not work in the national stage. I mean, Drag queens can't read at libraries, there can be no drag shows, people can randomly get guns everywhere. He’s sort of attacking our freedoms one by one by one. I think the rest of the country –
JOY BEHAR: And then they call themselves a freedom party now.
HOSTIN: A freedom party. Yeah. And when you start attacking people's freedoms, Americans take that pretty seriously, I think. So, I just can't understand if he is really smart because he’s certainly very educated and served in the military, or really dumb.

HOSTIN: So he's either really smart or really dumb.
SARA HAINES: I think he's really smart playing a card that he wants to appeal to people that would normally say, "Oh, you're one of those northeastern elites." So he’s playing it all down.
BEHAR: He also has an enormous education and wants to take all learning away from people. Ban the books, don't talk about African American history, make everybody ignorant except for him and his elite squad.
[Crosstalk]
HOSTIN: That makes people more dangerous.
WHOOPI GOLDBERG: Just because people have education doesn't mean they have any kind of real sense.
[Applause]
HOSTIN: That’s why he could be dumb!
GOLDBERG: The problem for me is I’ve listened to him now talk about what he's doing for all the families. And it occurred to me last night, you're not helping families avoid anything. You have made life harder for many families.
HOSTIN: Many, many families.
GOLDBERG: Because, if you have a little child who’s telling you, this is what they are seeing, this is what they’re feeling these parents aren't sitting around eating bonbons. They don't just take their kids -- they are with shrinks, they’re talking to everybody to see the best way. And what you’re doing is you’re making their jobs 10 times harder because now they can help their kid. They can take their child somewhere.
You’re trying to move history. Here's the bottom line. People know what's going on. You can hide it, you can put it down, you can do whatever. But the truth of the matter is, we have an issue in this country and it has to do with race. And kids are going to know it, because –
[Applause]
Because you are trying to hide it.
And whether it's a kid who has two dads, or it’s a kid whose mom has been exploited by the police, there are things that are going to come up that you can't hide, that you can't fix.
So, dude, you’re not ready for America.
HOSTIN: He’s not ready for the national stage.
GOLDBERG: You're not ready for this country yet. Because you haven't learned that we are a diverse nation. So you can run if you want to, but I ain't voting for you. We'll be right back.
HOSTIN: Same.
