The View Blames GOP/Fox for Pelosi Attack, This Is 'On Your Hands'

November 1st, 2022 2:17 PM

It’s a fact that the ladies of ABC’s The View find political violence palatable when it’s Republicans who are the targets and their lives are in danger. But on Tuesday’s show, they were trying to tie Republicans and Fox News to an attack on Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s (D-CA) husband Paul, claiming “this is on your hands,” falsely suggesting Republicans have not condemned the attack, and demanding people stop speaking badly about Democrats lest they get hurt.

Whoopi Goldberg began the discussion by lashing out at Arizona Republican gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake for “crazy comments” pointing out the Pelosi home had lax security. She chided Lake by saying she should know “the consequences of lies and stupid rhetoric” since she comes from the same state as former Democratic Congresswoman Gabby Giffords.

With Giffords as the springboard, Sara Haines ridiculously tried to blame the attack on a Republican “fire Pelosi campaign” from over 10 years ago. She went on to ramble incoherently about Republicans talking about mental health and seemingly blaming the attack on Republican efforts to supposedly “gut health care at every corner.”

“There’s got to be an out-of-bounds. This is: take your jersey off and condemn this at all costs,” she demanded.

That’s rich coming from a show that’s openly supportive of political violence against Republicans. This year they’ve encouraged the targeting of conservative Supreme Court justices (which culminated in an assassination attempt on Justice Kavanaugh and his family), tried to justify the assassination attempt on New York Republican gubernatorial candidate and sitting congressman, Lee Zeldin, and have refused to condemn the left-wing terrorist attacks on pro-life centers.

Despite the facts, racist co-host Sunny Hostin and co-host Joy Behar teamed up to suggest there was no political violence from the left (Click “expand”):

HOSTIN: But the other thing here is a Washington Post/University of Maryland poll from just this January, after January 6, found that 1 in 3 Americans said it could sometimes be justified for citizens to take violent action against the government or government actors and 40 percent of Republicans said violent actions could be justified compared to 23 percent of Democrats.

HOSTIN: So, I think we need to mention that “other sides,” “both sides” thing.

BEHAR: That’s what I want to say. There's no both sides here.

HOSTIN: No.

Behar went further and suggested there was no crime wave in the U.S. whatsoever. “So, crime is not on the rise it's actually going down under Joe Biden,” she proclaimed.

Faux conservative and clout grifter, Alyssa Farah Griffin perpetuated the BIG LIE that Republicans were not condemning the attack. “To those in my party who are not calling this out directly: shame on you,” she shrieked. She noted the shooting at the Republican congressional baseball practice in 2017 but used it to bludgeon her strawman over the head and tout Democrats for how they talked nice and supported Rep. Steve Scalise (R-LA) in his recovery.

Of course, Farah Griffin refused to list out recent examples of liberal political violence and condemn how the show supports it.

Interestingly, when the baseball shooting was mentioned, Behar flaunted her ignorance by asking “What is that?” Farah Griffin had to explain what happened. “My bosses were actually targeted,” she said, failing to note that the attacker was one of Behar’s fellow Bernie Sanders supporters.

As they went to break, Goldberg again chose to spout off, this time blaming Fox News. “Hey, Fox News some of this is on your hands. Some of this is on your hands,” she proclaimed, without evidence. She wanted them to “stop with [the] ‘that side is not good’” talk. Adding: “This is what it puts out there. It tells people that you think it's okay to do this.”

She wants people to stop saying Democrats are “not good” because it could lead to people getting hurt, yet The View will continue to call Republicans “fascists” and a threat to the country. Perhaps some lives are worth more to ABC and The View.

WHOOPI GOLDBERG: What else needs to happen? I mean, you know, people have been making all kind of crazy comments. RNC Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel said, “Joe Biden didn't talk about the assassination attempt against Brett Kavanaugh,” but he put out a statement the very day condemning and supporting increased funding. Kari Lake was asked about school security and she said, “Nancy Pelosi has protection when she's in D.C. Apparently her house doesn't have a lot.”

JOY BEHAR: And she got laughs at that.

GOLDBERG: Yeah, she did. And you would think that a woman who was an evening anchor in Arizona when Gabby Giffords was attacked, representing the state of Arizona, would understand the consequences of lies and stupid rhetoric about politicians. Of which now which she is one. Why would you think any of this -- no one thinks this is funny, no one thinks this is made up, this is happening to everyone.

SARA HAINES: As you mentioned Gabby Gifford’s, that was a change for this one Republican strategist, Doug Heye, who after –  he used to be part of a fire Pelosi campaign. And after the Gabby Giffords incident, he said enough is enough. And he is quoted as saying, “Any time there's any political violence or the threat of it, the ultra-partisans go into other side mode. My side’s good, your side’s bad.”

And I have been hearing a lot, when people talk about this. Whether than just saying, “wielding a hammer and attacking someone is wrong on all counts, this is completely out of bounds.” I’m hearing that it's the crime problem, it’s that we have a crime problem.

What's interesting here this man so far has not indicated any criminal past, he does have mental health issues, according to an ex-girlfriend, and he also has addiction problems. Now, the right is all about mental health when it's about guns because then we don't have to talk about the guns, we'll talk about mental health. But when it comes for mental health being the issue for this person doing this crime, we're not going to talk about it. We’re going to gut health care at every corner.

There’s got to be an out of bounds. This is: take your jersey off and condemn this at all costs.

SUNNY HOSTIN: But the other thing here is a Washington Post/University of Maryland poll from just this January, after January 6, found that 1 in 3 Americans said it could sometimes be justified for citizens to take violent action against the government or government actors and 40 percent of Republicans said violent actions could be justified compared to 23 percent of Democrats.

[Crosstalk]

HOSTIN: So, I think we need to mention that “other sides,” “both sides” thing.

BEHAR: That’s what I want to say. There's no both sides here.

HOSTIN: No.

BEHAR: And lot of them like to say it, including Ted Cruz when he was here. And I'd like to remind everybody that it was the Democrats – not the Democrats who stormed the government that day and tried to kill the vice president. Okay?

And the Republicans now coming up to the next election, which is next week by the way, all they do is talk about crime, crime, crime. Well, I looked it up, murders in major cities have fallen by four percent so far in 2022 compared with the same period a year ago. So, crime is not on the rise it's actually going down under Joe Biden.

ALYSSA FARAH GRIFFIN: But what is on the rise is political violence. And I want to say unequivocally political violence left, right, center is wrong. To those in my party who are not calling this out directly: shame on you. This is an 82-year-old man. He's been charged with elderly abuse for what he did.

And really quickly, I was working for the Freedom Caucus when the 2017 congressional baseball shooting took place.

BEHAR: What is that?

FARAH GRIFFIN: My bosses were actually targeted. At the time—

HOSTIN: Ted Cruz was part of the freedom caucus --

FARAH GRIFFIN: No. It’s actually just House members. Steve Scalise was nearly killed in that shooting. The difference is every Democrat roundly condemned it. And they rooted for his recovery. What is happening we should be ashamed of. The fact that we can’t unequivocally call out wrong doing. This is – I fear it's going to get worse before it gets better. I pray that that is wrong. But, I mean, our thoughts and our prayers are with Pelosi.

[Crosstalk]

BEHAR: Well, you’re in a position to tell them.

GOLDBERG: Hey, Fox News some of this is on your hands. Some of this is on your hands. You like to call people out. Well, I'm calling you all out, stop with “that side is not good.” This is what it puts out there. It tells people that you think it's okay to do this. Stop doing it. We'll be right back.
