The Late Late Show host James Corden welcomed PuPaul onto the Friday edition of the CBS early morning talk show where they claimed to have a special insight into the mind of social conservatives: the reason they are opposed to children at drag shows is because they seek to distract from gun control efforts.
For Corden increasing opposition to children at these events is unfortunate, “Now, RuPaul, I want to talk to you about this, because to your credit, could you agree, drag has become incredibly mainstream, celebrated in every corner of the world which makes to me and so many people what’s happening in Texas all the more shocking.”
He then asked RuPaul for his thoughts, “For anyone who doesn't know, they're introducing laws to ban children from attending drag show, and I'm very interested to get your take. What do you make of this? Of what’s happening?”
For RuPaul, it isn’t a question of whether these events are to sexualized for children or promote gender confusion in easily impressible youth, but “this is a diversion tactic to do, take the narrative away from the gun debate into something to scare people into thinking about something else. And—and-- they've been successful. They have changed the narrative away from the gun debate into this drag queen thing.”
If you truly care about children, he continued, you’ll support gun control, “Say, y'all want to help your kids? Take away them guns. That will help them kids. And drag queens—drag queens-- ain't hurting nobody.”
Further wondering what the big deal was, he added, “These drag queens ain't hurting, you know, you're born naked and the rest is drag. Everybody is in drag, ok?”
Corden thought this unimpressive retort was the among the greatest arguments he’s ever heard as he loudly proclaimed, “You're absolutely right.”
