MSNBC's Capehart Loves Howard Dean Scolding Dems For Not Fighting 'Neo-Fascist' GOP

January 24th, 2022 10:15 AM

Howard Dean didn't quite unleash his infamous scream on Sunday, but he did express a lot of angry emotion on Jonathan Capehart's MSNBC show. Interestingly, most of that anger was directed at...Democrats! Although — true to Democrat form — Dean did call Republicans "neo-fascists" [singling out Ted Cruz and Josh Hawley] and said there were "similarities" between Hitler and Trump.

Dean was replying to Capehart's question as to whether, given Biden's "really bad" polling numbers, Biden and the Democrats are "doomed" in 2022 and beyond.

Responded an angry Dean:

No of course not. Here's the problem. The Democrats are being wimps. I am impatient with Democratic voters being discouraged. If you don't get out there and keep the Democratic majorities from these neo-fascists on the Republican side like Ted Cruz and Josh Hawley, that's not on the Republicans, that's on you.

So, this really parallels what happened in Germany in between the wars, when Hitler took power. And I don't want to compare Trump to Hitler, although there are some similarities. But the truth is, voters have to not be apathetic. It was apathy as much as anti-Semitism that led to the Holocaust.

Capehart adored Dean's rant, framing the unhinged political tirade as if it were a religious sermon: "I wish I had my church organ just now for Chairman Dean, because he is saying exactly what I'm thinking."

MSNBC's Jonathan Capehart seconding Howard Dean saying that Democrats need to fight "neo-fascist" Republicans, and seeing similarities between Hitler and Trump, was sponsored by Procter & Gamble, maker of Olay, Hyundai, Liberty Mutual, Oscar Mayer, and Sandals.

Here's the transcript.

MSNBC's The Sunday Show

JONATHAN CAPEHART: The president's poll numbers: really bad! Are they so bad that he can't turn it around, and are they so bad that the Democrats are doomed in the midterm elections?

HOWARD DEAN: No, of course not. Here's the problem. The Democrats are being wimps. I am impatient with Democratic voters being discouraged. This is your country! If you don't want to fight for it, that's your business. But if you don't get out there and keep the Democratic majorities from these neo-fascists on the Republican side like Ted Cruz and Josh Hawley, that's not on the Republicans, that's on you!

So, this really parallels what happened in Germany in between the wars, when Hitler took power. And I don't want to compare Trump to Hitler, although there are some similarities. But the truth is, voters have to not be apathetic. It was apathy as much as anti-Semitism that led to the Holocaust. And people just turned a blind eye.

Get out there and fight! If you think this country is important, then you better get out there and vote. And then don't blame the Democrats after the fact if you haven't gone to vote and you get some crackpot in the presidency who wants to take away your right to vote."

JONATHAN CAPEHART: You know, Chairman Steele, I wish I had my church organ just now for Chairman Dean. Because he, he is saying exactly what I'm thinking. You know: get out there! Forget about the enthusiasm! Our democracy is on the line!
