As two NewsBusters studies had found earlier this month, the evening newscasts of ABC, CBS, and NBC had been showing less and less of President Biden’s border crisis until they weren’t covering it at all. And after nearly a week, the networks had refused to share with their viewers how an MS-13 gang member, wanted for sexually assaulting a minor in Houston was arrested as he tried to cross the border back into Texas.
As usual, it was Fox News who had to step in and tell the truth the Democratically-beholden networks wouldn’t.
“And, Bret, highlighting some of those security concerns, Border Patrol is reporting that just last Wednesday, right here in this sector, they actually apprehended an active MS-13 gang member who had a criminal warrant out for his arrest in the Houston area for the sexual assault of a young child,” reported correspondent Bill Melugin. “He came across with a group of 70 other migrants.”
Melugin also noted that Border Patrol had also captured a convicted murderer who was trying to sneak back into the country:
That same day, Border Patrol reports they also apprehended a Mexican national, again in this sector, who had a conviction for murder in Harris county in 2006. He was deported after 15 years in prison and decided, evidently, now is the time he wanted to try to cross back into the U.S. again.
He also detailed some of the wild scenes Fox News was witnessing as overworked Border Patrol agents tried to wrangle the fleeing illegals. “Disappearing into the brush in La Jolla, Texas after crossing illegally into the U.S. this morning. A Border Patrol helicopter pinned down part of the group with agents on the ground taking two men into custody. A scene that plays out like clockwork every morning here in the Rio Grande Valley,” he explained.
Further, Melugin also recounted how a large group of men was trying to elude capture and the efforts of a lone Border Patrol agent:
The group, about 30 to 40 single adults spreads out into an open field running in all directions away from Border Patrol. Two of the men are already handcuffed to each other, suggesting they had previously been in Border Patrol custody. A single outnumbered Border Patrol agent in a pickup truck tries to follow part of the group, mostly men with no children. The migrants jump across water as the border agent continues trying to follow.
“Ultimately, Border Patrol was able to capture part of the group but it did appear that some got away,” he said.
The networks also refused to cover the Border Security Caucus making a visit to the border to see the crisis first hand:
REP. BRIAN BABIN (R-TX): This is nothing short of a humanitarian disaster, which they continuously say that it's not happening. They say that the border is secure, that people are being turned back. Well, I can tell you that the border is anything but secure.
“Their assessment? The Biden administration has to wake up and Vice President Kamala Harris needs to visit the border,” Melugin noted.

Much of that surge is being interpreted and intercepted by law enforcement on the border. Correspondent Bill Melugin reports tonight from Rio Grande valley, Texas.

BILL MELUGIN: Fox cameras are rolling as a group of migrants run from border patrol. Disappearing into the brush in La Jolla, Texas after crossing illegally into the U.S. this morning. A Border Patrol helicopter pinned down part of the group with agents on the ground taking two men into custody. A scene that plays out like clockwork every morning here in the Rio Grande valley.
Just down the road, another group of migrants walks into the United States and gives themselves up. We spoke to them before Border Patrol arrived.

[In English] And this exclusive drone footage from our Fox flight team shows a large group of illegal immigrants rushing the U.S. border in La Jolla early Sunday morning.
The group, about 30 to 40 single adults spreads out into an open field running in all directions away from Border Patrol. Two of the men are already handcuffed to each other, suggesting they had previously been in Border Patrol custody. A single outnumbered Border Patrol agent in a pickup truck tries to follow part of the group, mostly men with no children. The migrants jump across water as the border agent continues trying to follow. Ultimately, Border Patrol was able to capture part of the group but it did appear that some got away.
In El Paso this afternoon, Texas Republican Brian Babin led members of the Border Security Caucus’s congressional delegation on a tour of border facilities and of the border wall itself. They wanted to evaluate the ongoing immigration crisis. Their assessment? The Biden administration has to wake up and Vice President Kamala Harris needs to visit the border.
