Who needs on-screen superheroes when you’ve got real live lefty crusaders behind the camera? According to its co-directors, the millions of viewers who saw Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Endgame and Avengers: Infinity War were taking in anti-Trump propaganda.
In a recent interview with The Guardian, the Russo brothers revealed that they intended their two Marvel blockbusters to reflect the political environment in which they were made. They flat out told the paper, “Those movies are very much about what went on in this country over the past four years.”
Coming from two major Hollywood players, it’s safe to assume that they aren’t referring proudly to what happened politically over the last four years, i.e. Trump had them up in the wee hours most evenings terrified over inflammatory tweets probably. Their subsequent statements had the same tone that most Hollywood people adopt when complaining of the past four years of Trump trauma.
Joe Russo claimed he and his brother’s films “were about standing up for what you believe in, irrespective of the cost, and I think we’re losing sight of that. For some reason, in the UK and in the US, some of the worst people were being attracted to politics and were representing us collectively.” Ah, he probably wasn’t referring to Black Lives Matter activists or the “The Squad.”
The Russo brothers even admitted that politics over the last four years “was affecting our collective mental health, and it was reflecting poorly on our character.” There it is, some of that classic Trump Derangement Syndrome.
Of course both brothers never explicitly mentioned Trump in this most recent interview, but they’ve expressed disdain for the MAGA movement in the past. Right before the 2020 election, both Russos told NowThis News, “Not only is this current president allowing fascism to creep every aspect of the country, we have issues we have to deal with in terms of social media, and regulation, and the way that information, you know, false information is being passed.”
Yep, conservatives, their fascism and their non-corporate mainstream news sources, oh my! These guys are dumber than we thought.
In that interview, the Russos added that if their superheroes existed in our universe they’d be “at the forefront” of the election fight. So in essence, Trump is the Marvel villain “Thanos,” whose dastardly plan to take over the universe (re-election 2020) was thwarted by Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, etc.
So these would be the superheroes behind what Time magazine referred to as “the Shadow Campaign That Saved the 2020 Election.” Noted.
In the interview with The Guardian, the directors confirmed that their Marvel films were made to inspire the heroism it took to stand up to Trump, stating, “We believed strongly that the reach in those movies was so significant that they could be influential in helping people make potentially make better decisions. We thought that they were a really powerful tool, at exactly the right time.” Yeah thanks, guys. President Dementia has really saved our necks.
