Thursday on The View, the hosts scoffed at Republicans for opposing another one of Biden’s controversial cabinet picks, Budget Director nominee and Democrat party hack Neera Tanden. Playing clips from her confirmation hearings earlier this week, hosts Joy Behar and Sunny Hostin dismissed concerns as simply “mean tweets” who in no way compare to hypocritical Republicans---who supposedly endorse violent riots.
Ironically, Behar and Hostin attacked Republican opposition after ABC played a clip of Senator Bernie Sanders confronting Tanden over her demeaning tweets about progressives.
Behar, a former English teacher first griped about Tanden saying she “felt badly.” Behar admitted her grammar errors bothered her more than Tanden’s nastiness on Twitter:
“It's going to drive me crazy. To me, that was one of the worst things she said,” she scoffed, before defending Tanden as a victim of a “false equivalency” because Republicans are much worse:
[T]he girl did not say anything racist, threatening, obscene, misogynistic or homophobic. All she did was call Moscow Mitch, Moscow Mitch, which people in his own state are calling him. Okay? I don't think that she said anything that egregious. I think this is again the false equivalency popping up. You have on the one side people who are okay with mobbing the Capitol and causing people to die, and on the other, people who say Moscow Mitch. Give me, a break.
Whoopi Goldberg also dismissed concerns over Tanden: “I mean, she didn't threaten anybody's lives, she didn't say anybody should die. She, you know, she was -- she was a trolling kind of person.”
Sunny Hostin also brought up impeachment, sneering that Tanden, “didn't incite an insurrection,” before accusing Republicans of being hypocrites:
I am a little surprised at the Republicans on the committee that are questioning her and clutching their pearls when they said nothing about former, you know, twice impeached disgraced President Trump and all the tweets that he sent out over the past four years. They had nothing to say. There was just silence, and now all of a sudden, her tweets are trolling and she's terrible and they're so upset about it...
Of course, The View hosts held quite different opinions when it came to Trump criticizing the left on Twitter. On the July 18, 2019 episode, Behar wanted the former president to be charged with hate speech for criticizing Rep. Ilhan Omar on Twitter. Another time on a July 10, 2017 episode, the hosts went nuts over Trump tweeting a silly gif fake wrestling the CNN logo, saying it contributed to “death threats” against CNN.
It’s also worth noting that on November 30, when Tanden’s nomination was announced, the media didn’t have the Capitol Hill riot or impeachment to use as an excuse for dismissing concern over Tanden. Yet they still went to bat for her, mocking Republican opposition of the highly partisan pick known not just for derogatory comments, but spreading 2016 election conspiracy theories and the bogus Steele dossier. Still, the New York Times, the big three networks, MSNBC’s Hallie Jackson and Chuck Todd, offered sneering condescension for her GOP critics at the time.

JOY BEHAR: …. It's going to drive me crazy. To me, that was one of the worst things she said. But having said that, the girl did not say anything racist, threatening, obscene, misogynistic or homophobic.
…
WHOOPI GOLDBERG: Sunny, how should she be held accountable? I mean, she didn't threaten anybody's lives, she didn't say anybody should die. She, you know, she was -- she was a trolling kind of person.
SUNNY HOSTIN: Yeah.
WHOOPI: So should it be, like, you know, well, that's what happens, like, if she doesn't get the gig? That's what happens, and if she does get the gig, you got to be better. What do you think is going to take the cake here?
SUNNY HOSTIN:Well, she certainly didn't incite an insurrection. You know, I don't like to play the whataboutism game and the both sides game, but I am a little surprised at the Republicans on the committee that are questioning her and clutching their pearls when they said nothing about former, you know, twice impeached disgraced President Trump and all the tweets that he sent out over the past four years. They had nothing to say. There was just silence, and now all of a sudden, her tweets are trolling and she's terrible and they're so upset about it. That being said, I think it's inappropriate for someone to behave online in the way that she behaved? Should she be held accountable for it? She's apologized. Joe Biden thinks that she's the appropriate head of that office, and I think he, you know, he knows what he's doing, and I trust his decision making, and I trust him, and so that being said, you know, let's see what happens in the committee, but I'm not going to play in this whataboutism thing with Republicans clutching their pearls. I think it's absurd.
