After White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany enraged reporters (and their liberal friends) by calling out their hypocrisy in refusing to accept the 2016 election results, CNN huffed hours later that McEnany was wrong.
During Friday's Situation Room, correspondent Boris Sanchez huffed, “The White House is desperately spinning Trump's refusal to concede,” before playing just a short snippet of the press secretary’s smackdown where she said that Trump's election was "never accepted."
Sanchez fact-checked McEnany by pointing out actions from Clinton and Obama: “In fact, Hillary Clinton called Trump to concede hours after he was declared President-Elect. President Obama invited him to the White House just days later,” Sanchez smugly noted, as the chyron read, "WH baselessly claims Trump ‘never given an orderly transition of power.’”
Just a few minutes later, CNN was still mad and “desperately spinning” their 2016 actions. Host Wolf Blitzer and political commentator Bakari Sellers also touted the Obamas’ actions:
SELLERS: Donald Trump did not win this election and there are no parallels between now and 2016. Hillary Clinton called him and conceded the race. Barack Obama invited him to the White House. Joe Biden invited Mike Pence to the naval observatory. Michelle Obama spoke to Melania Trump. All of these things happened...
BLITZER: And President Obama immediately ordered the transition to begin, the transition of power and General Services Administration to begin working with the incoming team immediately. It was quite a different situation as it is right now.
How convenient for CNN to dismantle this straw man they constructed. Nowhere do any of these journalists mention any of examples the press secretary actually cited in her takedown, such as the liberal media’s dogged pursuit to prove Russia colluded with the Trump campaign and thus his election was illegitimate. They didn’t try to defend the Democrat congressmen and women who boycotted Trump’s inauguration, nor Democratic Senator Elizabeth Warren’s obstruction comments or President Obama pursuing the Logan Act (click "expand"):
[I]t’s worth remembering, this president was never given an orderly transition of power. His presidency was never accepted. In fact, before the election — his election, we know Crossfire Hurricane was launched by Peter Strzok to pursue a baseless allegations [sic] about the President's ties with Russia....You had 70 lawmakers say we’re not coming to his inauguration, Democratic lawmakers. You had Elizabeth Warren saying we are going to obstruct the Trump transition by urging the Government Accountability Office to investigate the incoming Trump transition.
In January of that year, you have President Obama having a “by-the-book” meeting where they talked about the Logan Act — using that act to go after Lieutenant General Michael Flynn...many sought to undermine him, discredit him, delegitimize him, and deny him his victory. There were no calls for unity. There were no calls for healing...
The truth is the media and many Democrats didn’t accept Donald Trump won the 2016 election and here’s a roundup of despairing quotes from journalists at the time proving that.
Hillary Clinton may have conceded the day after the election, but she spent years afterwards complaining to journalists about how Trump was an illegitimate president. And reporters repeated her claims. In fact, they were still indulging Clinton’s delusions as recently as this year, when ABC correspondent Linsey Davis consoled Clinton with the promise that she “really won” the 2016 election.

5:06:48 - 5:07:38 p.m. EasternBORIS SANCHEZ: Despite surging case numbers around the country, the White House is desperately spinning Trump's refusal to concede.
KAYLEIGH MCENANY: Something I would note is just we talked a lot about transfer of power in the election and it's worth remembering that this president was never given an orderly transition of power. His presidency was never accepted.
SANCHEZ: In fact, Hillary Clinton called Trump to concede hours after he was declared President-Elect. President Obama invited him to the White House just days later and during his inauguration, Trump said this.
TRUMP: Every four years we gather on these steps to carry out the orderly and peaceful transfer of power and we are grateful to President Obama and first lady Michelle Obama for their gracious aid throughout this transition.

BAKARI SELLERS: Donald Trump did not win this election and there are no parallels between now and 2016. Hillary Clinton called him and conceded the race. Barack Obama invited him to the white House. Joe Biden invited Mike Pence to the naval observatory. Michelle Obama spoke to Melania Trump. All of these things happened and, right now you just have a White House that’s wrapped in cowardice and that cowardice has trickled throughout the party. It's a sad and devastating time. All Joe Biden can do now is lead and hope some Republicans eventually will follow.
WOLF BLITZER: And President Obama immediately ordered the transition to begin, the transition of power and general services administration to begin working with the incoming team immediately. It was quite a different situation as it is right now.
