For the second time since election day, CBS obsessed over the abject failure of the Democratic Party in the House and the Senate. Democratic donor/This Morning host Gayle King looked for answers and turned to turned to another Democrat: “Democratic Senator, that’s Amy Klobuchar, will talk with us a little later on about the presidential race and her party apparently falling short, way short in its bid to control the Senate.”
In fact, the Republicans did so well, it’s possible they might take the House back. King lamented, “Senator, it was not a good day for the Democrats in the Senate. You know, the blue wave did not materialize. You know, the Democrats had so many chances in the Senate. Is this a wake-up call for your party? What happened?”
On Wednesday, This Morning co-host Anthony Mason lamented, “They had hopes of taking the Senate. Those seem to be fading away. It's within reach but barely. And the House they hoped to make gains, and that's evaporated as well, it looks like.” John Dickerson allowed that Democrats “did not do as well as they thought they were going to do across the board.”
He added, “We talked to the Biden campaign, one exciting version of events where they win North Carolina, Georgia, midwest and then were even flirting with Texas. That's not happening.”
On Friday, when King wasn’t lamenting the imaginary blue wave, she was lobbying Klobuchar to get Republican colleagues to abandon Donald Trump:
He keeps talking about voter fraud, Senator Klobuchar. But your Republican colleagues, some of them seem to be taking up yoga poses in terms of the way they are twisting themselves not to say to the President, “Please knock this off.” So what do you say to them? Some of them have condemned it, some of them have, but most of them seem to be backing the president. What do you say to them, and are you having private conversations with any of them?

8:08GAYLE KING: Democratic Senator, that’s Amy Klobuchar, will talk with us a little later on about the presidential race and her party apparently falling short, way short in its bid to control the Senate.
8:30KING: Welcome back to CBS This Morning. Overnight, Joe Biden narrowly pulled ahead of President Trump in the key state of Georgia. But the race there is still too close to call. Nationally, CBS News projects the former vice president currently has 253 electoral votes to the President's 213. In Georgia, the new tallies put Biden in the lead over Mr. Trump by a very slim margin and the President's lead in Pennsylvania has been whittled down to just under 19,000. Minnesota Democratic Senator Amy Klobuchar, former presidential candidate herself, has endorsed Joe Biden for president. She joins us now to discuss the lay of the lan at this particular time. Good to see you, Senator Klobuchar.
SENATOR AMY KLOBUCHAR: Good morning, Gayle.
KING: Good morning. This is what we’re hearing, how people are describing the race. Nail biter, too close to call, razor thin. Joe Biden though appears to be inching closer to that magical number of 270. How are you feeling about the state of the race as we sit here today?
...
KING: Yeah. What do you say to them, and are you having private conversations with any of them?
...
KING: Senator Klobuchar, it is an ongoing question, when you hear the president saying things that are blatantly not true, why don't Republicans say, “Mr. President, honestly, you're not speaking the truth and you're not helping the cause at this particular time? Why don't they speak up? When they know it's not true.
KLOBUCHAR: Senator, it was not a good day for the Democrats in the Senate. You know, the blue wave did not materialize. You know, the Democrats had so many chances in the Senate. Is this a wake-up call for your party? What happened?...
KING: It will be interested to discuss at a later time about lessons learned. We thank you very much for taking the time.
