It’s nice that CNN still occasionally allows a real conservative analyst to make trouble on the set. Joseph Wulfsohn at Fox News reported that five minutes before the DNC-VCR segment of Tuesday night’s coverage kicked in, CNN analyst Scott Jennings caused a disturbance by asking why Democrats have never canceled Bill Clinton from appearing in the #MeToo era.
SCOTT JENNINGS: I have to say... I am dumbfounded by this. How is it that Bill Clinton has not been canceled by the Democratic -- how has he survived all of these waves of cancellations when he has been one of the biggest violators of these rules all these years? I mean we talked last night about character –
VAN JONES: We believe in redemption, brother!
JENNINGS: Listen. We talk about the use of character to try and say 'Donald Trump is a man of lower character than Joe Biden' ... he's fair game. That's totally fine. So you're gonna say that in one breath, and then say, 'Character matters. Ladies and gentlemen, Bill Clinton!' I mean, does this make sense to anyone? If you want Republicans to vote for Joe Biden, having Bill Clinton talk about character and not having drama in the Oval Office -- is that the right answer?
Former Michigan Governor Jennifer Granholm, who gushed over Bill Clinton’s tremendous economy in the 1990s, said “This question was asked and answered decades ago. The point is that Bill Clinton is excellent at explaining stuff, especially the things that matter to everyday people, like jobs!” She insisted “Democrats are better on the economy!”
Jones tried to answer the moral question, not dismiss it as irrelevant. “I don’t want to duck the question, though. You were talking about Bill Clinton’s character. And what I admire about Bill Clinton is he has acknowledged his wrongdoing. He’sapologized. He’s tried to rebuild his family. And I think apologies don’t come as often or as easily from from the present White House.”
Anderson Cooper then moved energetically on to a different topic.
