It's vintage Deadspin red meat: Carron J. Phillips tearing into President Donald Trump over the coronavirus and his alleged racism. This president did not follow the wisdom of his predecessor, Barack Obama, and now we're all doomed. The impeachment farce failed, but Trump still needs to be removed from office, Phillips writes.
White people can’t ignore the coronavirus, says Phillips, a writer for Deadspin. "Rich people can’t buy an antidote. And those that haven’t been infected can’t even find a leader to comfort them. ...
"It will get worse before it gets better. But it didn’t have to be this way. It’s important to understand that we were sold out by our own president, again, all because he willingly chose to disband the pandemic team that the Obama administration put in place."
Phillips (as well as Joe Biden and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar) has been whining for days about Obama's pandemic team allegedly getting shut down in 2018, but The Heritage Foundation disproved that:
“We consolidated three directorates into one,” Tim Morrison, former senior director for counterproliferation and biodefense on the NSC, told The Daily Signal in a phone interview. “This eliminated layers in the reporting chain and in the accountability chain.”
As part of a larger reorganization, former national security adviser John Bolton in 2018 merged the Directorate for Global Health Security and Biodefense with two other functions into a new Directorate of Counterproliferation and Biodefense. "Not a single staffer lost his position," said Morrison, now working at the Hudson Institute.
"Historically, racism has made people do strange things," writes Phillips, who can race bait with the best of the progressives. One of those "strange" racist things was President Trump allegedly reaching out to a Latin American Alex Rodriguez, the former baseball player and current baseball broadcaster. Trump decided "Alex Rodriguez was the best person to call" about the pandemic, Phillips cries:
"Yes. Alex. Fucking. Rodriguez.

"Governors can’t get a call from Trump unless they kiss his ass, but A-Rod? No problem.
"To Trump, the advice of Dr. Anthony Fauci — and the rest of the world’s top infectious disease experts — pales in comparison to the wisdom of a member of the 40-40 Steroid Club."
Phillips keeps on whining, about how we're less than eight months away from a scheduled presidential election – "frightened, panicked, and dying, all the while being forced to deal with a petulant toddler that occupies the Oval Office."
Trump voters now understand why so many enlightened progressives like Phillips tried their best to prevent his election. His purpose was "to re-energize white supremacy," Phillips insists.
"Racism was always going to be your ruin, we just didn’t know how," Phillips continues. Dialing up his inner Keith Olbermann, Phillips says that for Trump, racial prejudice has been the focal point of his "absurdity and cruelty" in office:
"He’s the bad fruit that’s been harvested from an infected orchard. And no matter how appalling a rotten apple may be, unless the infected tree and soil where the fruit was created is dealt with, additional spoiled produce is inevitable."
Just a month before the coronavirus started spreading throughout the U.S., the government had a chance to remove Trump from office through the impeachment process, Phillips moans. A process prompted by lies and deceit, that is, along with Sen. Mitt Romney's "lone voice" of wisdom in the GOP camp.
"Instead, here we are. All of us. Trapped in our homes hoping not to die," Phillips complained.
"It is not an exaggeration to say that we are in a moment that could determine the future of this country. This is the definition of a 'learning experience,' and what comes from this will either be a continuity of our wildly dysfunctional norm or a catalyst for change."
Sports events have been shut down, but Phillips' penchant for politics has not:
"Hospitals across the country are struggling to care for swelling numbers of patients suffering from coronavirus. At this point, it’s impossible to ignore that a president who represents what America has always been at its core, is the same one whose willful missteps have put us all in jeopardy.
"This has been said before by many people over the past year, but COVID-19 has only brought the truth of it into dire perspective:
"Trump’s removal from office has surpassed a desire and become a necessity."
The lives of Democrats, Republicans and Independents all are riding on it, writes Phillips.
