While new polls show the public’s record-high approval ratings of President Trump’s leadership during this coronavirus pandemic, the media is trying to direct attention onto the leadership of New York Governor Andrew Cuomo instead, with obnoxious sycophantic puff pieces. For example, take this adoring article on CNN’s website by Chris Cillizza entitled, “Everyone needs to see Andrew Cuomo's inspiring words on the fight against coronavirus.”
The CNN editor at large opened his gooey piece hyping the Democrat governor’s “inspiring” and “hugely important” words to end his Tuesday press conference as “very much worth reading” before quoting a segment of it. Cillizza treated Cuomo’s nice, but ordinary message full of platitudes as if it was the modern Gettysburg Address, gushing:
That is an elected official standing up and reminding us that we've been in bad situations before and the way we've always persevered is by sticking together, remember that we all have a lot more in common than we have that differentiates us. That only by understanding we are all in this together -- healthy, sick, old, young, health care worker, politician, whatever, will we get through it. That there is always a light at the end of the tunnel even if we can't always see it. And that getting there won't be easy, but we will get there. That is leadership. That is empathy in action. That is what we need.
After laying the groundwork of why Cuomo was so great, Cillizza immediately compared his leadership to Trump's:
Cuomo's rallying cry stands in sharp contrast to the rhetoric from President Donald Trump throughout this crisis.What Trump has always struggled to do -- in this crisis and other difficult situations in his first term (white supremacist marchers in Charlottesville being a prime example) -- is to lead with empathy. To put the "we" before the "me" to borrow a phrase from CNN's Chris Cuomo. To grasp that leadership isn't just about dividing us for political gain but uniting us behind a common challenge and goal.
That is something Trump has never grasped -- or, obviously, done.
Trump cares deeply about Trump. What he perceives as good for him is what he is inclined to do
Does Cillizza remember his own words in 2016, insisting journalists “don’t pick sides”? Because that’s literally what he just did. Even more obnoxious, he used Chris Cuomo’s words to do it!
But the CNN journalist wasn't done raving over Cuomo's "vision":
Andrew Cuomo, in his words on Tuesday, is offering another path: To believe in all of us, knowing that by protecting the least among us we are showing ourselves and the world how America fights and wins these toughest of battles. The contrast between the two visions is startling.
This wasn’t the only puff piece devoted to Cuomo on CNN’s site. There’s also this one from a pro-abortion feminist finding religion because of the Democrat governor. Not to be outdone, The New York Times also bowed down at Cuomo’s feet, raving over his group “therapy” press conferences.
