MSNBC's Steve Schmidt is a brother-in-arms with Joe Scarborough. Both quit the Republican party, and have made their life's work the taking down of President Trump by any means necessary.
And so it was that Schmidt appeared on today's Morning Joe, and unleashed a veritable hailstorm of hyperbole about impeachment. Among Schmidt's over-the-top claims: President Trump committed "an act of corruption unprecedented in its magnitude and its severity." This was a "shakedown by our dime-store Mussolini in the Oval Office." This "exceeds by orders of magnitude anything that occurred in Watergate."
Here's the comments:
Morning Joe
11/12/19
7:012 am ETSTEVE SCHMIDT: I think what we’re going to see when we begin to see this or the American people will see when this begins to play out publicly is an act of corruption unprecedented in its magnitude and its severity . . . What this was was an extortion attempt. This was a shakedown by our dime-store Mussolini in the Oval Office who says to the President of the Ukraine, who is fighting a Russian invasion on his eastern front, expecting American weapons. The President of the Ukraine is shaked down, shooken down, by the President of the United States to get dirt on a political opponent. There has never been, never been, an act of corruption as significant as this by an American president not in the 20th or the first two decades of the 21st century. Never. This exceeds by orders of magnitude anything that occurred in Watergate.
So let's get this straight: An ambiguous phone call. Funds that were released shortly thereafter despite no investigation into the Bidens ever being undertaken by Ukraine. And that is the crime of centuries present and past? Whatever you say, Steve!
