On Wednesday's 50th anniversary of the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King, New York Daily News race-baiter Carron J. Phillips attacked white moderates who today are misrepresenting his message. He included President Donald Trump and Vice-president Mike Pence and also claimed that if Dr. King was alive today he'd be kneeling with Colin Kaepernick, dribbling with LeBron James and, as a good socialist, he'd be demanding that college athletes get paid.
All these present-day stands by the late Dr. King that Phillips envisions, would make the civil rights leader so hated that he would be regarded as public enemy No. 1. Phillips predicted that the president and VP would be leading the way among those misrepresenting what Dr. King stood for:
"Donald Trump, Mike Pence, GOP members, and anyone else who has ever denounced, voted or legislated against equality, humanitarian efforts, immigration, or failed to attack racism on every front, or opposed gun control, will more than likely release a statement or tweet their favorite King quote that they deem suitable for the day."
...
"Today's version of the white moderate aren't the ones that showed up in Charlottesville, wear 'Make America Great Again' hats, or still have Confederate flags flying from their front porch.''
These people, Phillips says, are the white people who refuse to play the identity politics game. They see character, not color. Which is what Dr. King dreamed of. These straw people "try to advise people of color on the 'right ways' to protest, and would prefer it if athletes would 'stick to sports.' Fifty years later, and they still don't understand that by not seeing a person's color, you don't see the inequalities they face on a daily basis." Me thinks Carron J. should re-read Dr. King's speech!
Today's racists (that's what he really means by "white moderates") display a "willful ignorance" that "won't allow them to realize that King would be kneeling next to Colin Kaepernick, and calling out NFL owners for not signing free agent Eric Reid because he knelt side-by-side with Kaepernick to bring awareness to police brutality during a song whose third stanza supports slavery.''
The new and improved race-baiting-Dr. King-for-the-21st-century would also be hanging down in Florida with high school students at Parkland demanding gun control. To make Americans less safe from violence.
Ending his latest gripe session, Phillips lectures us to remember "who Dr. King actually was, instead of using him as a prop to fit your flawed agenda."
Gee whiz, it seems Phillips just went to great lengths prescribing his own social justice agenda for the late Dr. King.
