During the late Tuesday/early Wednesday edition of CBS’s The Late Show, actress Drew Barrymore professed her love for the work of liberal comedian and host Stephen Colbert, praising his work now and previously on Comedy Central’s The Colbert Report as having taught her so much and made “the world a more smarter, educated place.”
Barrymore had just come out on stage at the 12:03 a.m. Eastern mark when Colbert told her how pleased he was pleased to see her since “I have not seen you since I interviewed you in character on the old show, and back then, I couldn't actually appreciate being with you to the degree that you deserve because I was a jerk.”
She was unfazed by Colbert’s admission, telling him that was okay because “I tend to overdo it with people I love, and I love you so much and I've watched every single episode of your show ever.”
The liberal actress explained that even if she were away for months (presumably acting and/or traveling), she would find time to watch “every episode because I just wouldn't have missed it.” She’d often with her ex and father of her kids (Will Kopelman) “because I would always learn something from everything, even if it was past news, it was a completely different perspective.”
Colbert blushed that The Colbert Report’s aim was always to “educate” since he’s “an educator” and Barrymore continued heaping praise for Colbert’s supposed substance:
BARRYMORE: I do like news, I do like it satirically, but I feel like satirical news is also covering stuff that even newspapers aren't and you have to dig so deep and you just make the world a more smarter, educated place while — [APPLAUSE] you know, while making it, like, palatable. Because a lot of the stuff we're learning, you know, it’s — [SHURGS]
COLBERT: It's got a bitter aftertaste, bitter aftertaste.
BARRYMORE: It’s really rough stuff.
“If you can serve it up in a delightful way, you've accomplished the God’s work,” Barrymore concluded before Colbert changed the subject.

If I would travel and come back two months later, I would go through every episode because I just wouldn't have missed it, and my children's father, like, and I would watch it together and I just never missed one episode because I would always learn something from everything, even if it was past news, it was a completely different perspective.
COLBERT: Well, we aimed to educate is primarily what we want to do. I am an educator.
