Ivanka Trump was embracing her role as adviser to the president on Tuesday when she was representing the United States at a women’s summit in Berlin, Germany. While on stage, she stated that her father has “been a tremendous champion of supporting families.” And with that, the European audience “hissed” and “jeered.” The liberal Big Three networks were more than happy to pounce on the incident and replay it that evening.
“Well, first daughter Ivanka Trump went to Germany for a meeting of women in business and government, but it didn't go as well as planned,” hyped Anchor Scott Pelley with a smile during CBS Evening News. He handed the story off to reporter Mark Phillips, who’s not her father’s biggest fan.
He started off his segment by mocking the first daughter, chiding that “Ivanka Trump had come to a high-powered conference in Berlin to champion the cause of working women, but she came with baggage-- her father's baggage.” And again a few seconds later:
Might the audience's skepticism, the moderator asked, stem from the attitude towards women Donald Trump had displayed in the past. Alluding, it seemed, to the well-known tape in which he bragged about groping women. The response? Blamed the media.
On ABC’s World News Tonight, reporter Linzie Janis highlighted a very rude question directed at Trump from the event’s moderator. “Who are you representing? Your father, as the president of the United States, the American people, or your business,” they asked her. To which Trump responded, “Certainly not the latter. And I am rather unfamiliar with this role as well, as it is quite new to me.”
Janis also played a clip of protesters crudely chanting: “Ivanka, Ivanka we don’t really want ya.” She also touted “a new poll, revealing 34 percent of Americans approve of having Ivanka and her husband in major positions in the administration.”
NBC actually thought nothing else occurring on Tuesday was more important, so they lead NBC Nightly News with it. “Good evening, the first daughter and presidential advisor, Ivanka Trump felt the singe of the spotlight in her first official trip abroad today,” announced Anchor Lester Holt at the top of the show.
Chief White House Correspondent Hallie Jackson seemed to poke fun at her, claiming that “Ivanka Trump in Berlin to help empower women finds herself instead defending one man.” “The moment partly overshadowing Trump's trip to a summit on how to boost female entrepreneurs sharing the stage with global power players like the head of the IMF and German Chancellor Angela Merkel,” she reported before mention just how unpopular the President was in Europe.
It’s ridiculous that they would comment that the heckling “overshadowed” Trump’s whole trip to Europe. This is the game the media like to play where they pretend that they don’t have editorial control over what they choose to cover. They had the option to simply note the heckling and move on to what else she said about women in business. But they chose to hyper-focus on the most sensational and inconsequential moment.
