Rolling Stone— the same magazine that pushed a fictitious college rape story, allowed Sean Penn to be “journalist” for a day by writing an article on the infamous drug lord “El Chapo,” and who slapped the Boston bomber's face on the cover of their magazine — now has the audacity to take advantage of the horrific Orlando massacre by a radical Islamic terrorist by making a plea to repeal the Second Amendment.
In David S. Cohen’s article on June 13, titled, “Why It's Time to Repeal the Second Amendment,” this “constitutional law professor” writes that the Constitution “…needs to be repealed because it is outdated, a threat to liberty and a suicide pact.” Cohen teaches the Constitution for a living and I guess we are supposed to take his word, which is kind of ironic because President Obama also considers himself a “constitutional scholar.”
Cohen says he reveres the document and admires the Founders for, “establishing a representative democracy that has survived for over two centuries,” but it’s only an attempt to soften the blow of how he really feels:
“But sometimes we just have to acknowledge that the Founders and the Constitution are wrong. This is one of those times. We need to say loud and clear: The Second Amendment must be repealed...”
The liberal media has taken a radical Islamic terrorist attack and tried turning it into an issue on gun control. Cohen is no different. NOT ONE TIME did he mention the radical views of the killer let alone actually use his name – Omar Mateen – the terrorist. NOT ONE TIME did Cohen mention the victims of this terrorist attack other than pathetically using them as part of his anti-second amendment argument:
“Just think of what would have happened in the Orlando night-club Saturday night if there had been many others armed. In a crowded, dark, loud dance club, after the shooter began firing, imagine if others took out their guns and started firing back …The death toll could have been much higher…”
Cohen’s article also hits gun-rights advocates by implying they “like to make this all about liberty, insisting that their freedom to bear arms is of utmost importance and that restricting their freedom would be a violation of basic rights…” and poorly attempts an emotional appeal by writing about unicorns, rainbows, butterflies and whatever pixie dust he chooses:
“But liberty is not a one way street. It also includes the liberty to enjoy a night out with friends, loving who you want to love, dancing how you want to dance, in a club that has historically provided a refuge from the hate and fear that surrounds you…to go anywhere and feel that you are free to do to so without having to weigh the risk of being gunned down by someone wielding a weapon that can easily kill you and countless others.”
I suggest Cohen follow up with an article urging the banning of knives since they have also been used in high profile killings. Will Americans be forced to use only butter-knives? What about a steak knife – would we need to go through a background check just to cut a steak? Would this mean only “special” people are given the authority to carve the Thanksgiving turkey?
Cohen’s article is a weak and unwarranted anti-Second Amendment rant– not to mention downright tacky as it comes during a time of tremendous mourning and doesn't say a darn thing about the victims or the Omar Mateen. What happened in Orlando wasn’t a gun issue - it was because a radical Islamic extremist who was hell-bent on killing American's that night and it didn’t matter what weapon he chose- – the bottom line is he was going to do it and nothing was going to stop him. Except maybe if someone else at the club had a gun themselves.
