UPDATE, 3:45 p.m. Eastern: According to the Courier-Journal’s Neil Budde, Murphy’s cartoon was not an original drawing for the NRA's Annual Meeting set for May 19-22 in Louisville, but instead republished on his Twitter account ahead of the NRA’s arrival in their city and may indeed have been published in the paper at some point in the past.
“This is an old cartoon that may have appeared in CJ years ago,” Budde told me.

UPDATE, 3:05 p.m. Eastern: Per a Twitter conversion with Budde, Murphy's cartoon was not included in the newspaper but rather done on his own time. However, it should be noted that the paper's name is included in the bottom right corner next to his signature, leading one to believe that it could have been done under their auspices. In a cartoon published Sunday night, Louisville Courier-Journal cartoonist Marc Murphy attacked the National Rifle Assocation (NRA) ahead of its national convention by depicting children being fatally crucified on crosses that read “2nd Amendment.”
Murphy unveiled the cartoon in a tweet on Sunday morning and with a few doses of sarcasm, he welcomed the NRA to the city by telling them to “[e]njoy your stay.”

With two children front and center, the child closest to the front appears to be dead and has emblazoned on her skirt “our children” in an obvious hint that the NRA and one of the most fundamental pillars of the Constitution murder innocent children at will.
It should come as little surprise to conservatives that newspaper cartoonists tack to the left and show their disdain for conservatives in a way that one would never expect to see liberals be treated.
Back on December 22, 2015, Washington Post cartoonist Ann Telnaes published an cartoon of Republican Senator Ted Cruz (Tex.) dressed in a Santa Claus outfit and holding an organ grinder while his two daughters were made into monkeys and danced in matching Santa outfits.
Naturally, the shameless media actually lashed out at Cruz for simply being outraged over this and tweeting that his daughters “are out of your league.” A few hours after it was published, the Washington Post removed it and explained that they could “understand why” Telnaes did what she did but they didn’t agree with it.
