Opining during MSNBC’s breaking news coverage early Saturday evening on the death of Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia, Rachel Maddow took a swing at the Senate Republicans for wanting “a functionless Supreme Court for an entire year” and Brian Williams complained originalists like Scalia failed to “anticipate” things like abortion, airplanes and iPhones.

After having been up most of the day, the long day for MSNBC’s Chris Matthews dragged on into the 11:00 p.m. Eastern hour as the Hardball host argued that Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders is “growing in political ability and reach” with his New Hampshire victory and could court “the Democratic center right now” as well as “center right” Democrats (as if there‘s any of them left).

MSNBC host and Thursday’s Presidential Candidates Debate co-moderator Rachel Maddow wondered aloud to Hillary Clinton whether some of the positions she’s held at various points warrant concern for the Democratic Party that she’s “too far to the right...to be the party's standard bearer” in the 2016 general election.

While Hillary Clinton has not agreed to interviews with recordable Fox News journalists (and two-time debate moderators) Bret Baier, Megyn Kelly or Chris Wallace, the Democratic presidential candidate called in to MSNBC on Sunday night for an interview with disgraced former NBC Nightly News anchor and current MSNBC breaking news anchor Brian Williams.

All three cable networks had extensive coverage on Sunday night for the eve of the 2016 Iowa caucuses and with Hardball host Chris Matthews among the cast of characters on MSNBC, there was no shortage of notable comments ranging Matthews admitting that he has “butterflies out there in the locker room” ahead of the vote to gushing that he “like[s] Hillary personally and politically.”

While Thursday night’s GOP debate was still on-going, NBC’s Meet the Press moderator Chuck Todd appeared on MSNBC’s The Last Word and hyped that Donald Trump events like the one he held instead of attending the debate have a “sort of like this rock concert feel” while the latest Republican presidential debate felt like it was “low energy” instead.

The liberal and often inappropriate Triumph the Insult Comic Dog joined MSNBC host Lawrence O’Donnell to close out Tuesday’s Last Word and along with going after Ted Cruz, Sarah Palin, and Donald Trump, Triumph took a few witty shots at former MSNBC (and soon to be Russia Today) host Ed Schultz and Democratic National Committee Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz.

In the pre-Democratic debate show on MSNBC Sunday night, Meet the Press moderator Chuck Todd brought on House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and asked her if, as “a student of American politics” and someone who “broke a marble ceiling as first woman Speaker of the House,” how significant it would be “for the Democratic Party to elect the first woman president.”
