The nation’s main domestic Spanish-language networks have largely refused to pre-empt their evening newscasts in order to carry the daily White House press briefings on the Trump Administration’s response to the Coronavirus pandemic. At best, viewers receive piecemeal information that is filtered through the network’s own biases. At worst, viewers are exposed to outright fake news.

Univision midday anchor Borja Voces suggested Thursday that President Donald Trump despises undocumented immigrants, in a rant about how undocumented immigrants were excluded from the government´s emergency economic assistance package.

The nation’s domestic Spanish-language networks have found a way to superimpose their most prominent public policy agenda item on their coronavirus coverage: by bemoaning the exclusion of illegal immigrants in the recently-passed economic aid package.

As the coronavirus pandemic further strains the nation’s medical capabilities, Univision continues to carry Planned Parenthood’s water, suggesting that abortion is in fact an essential service. 

As the fear of the Wuhan Coronavirus drove the market downturn, MRC Latino analyzed the economic coverage for the four most viewed Spanish News networks in the US (Noticiero Univision, Noticiero Telemundo, CNN en Espanol, and Noticiero Estrella TV) from February 25 through March 24, 2020. 

The morning shows at both Telemundo and Univision were ablaze today with stories about the coronavirus aid package that recently passed the Senate, which provided an opportunity they did not waste to lobby for – guess what – illegal immigration.

Univision loves to fuel the fake news flames, even if it means fanning them in times of a national emergency. Case in point is this video from the network´s morning kaffeeklatsch Despierta America, that showcases their skill at instilling panic and division in the country.
