All this week, NewsBusters is recounting the most obnoxious liberal bias of 2017. Monday, we presented some of the most outrageous examples of journalists fawning over liberal or left-wing icons, and yesterday we showcased some of this year’s nastiest attacks on Republicans or conservatives. Today it’s a look at all of the over-the-top attacks on President Donald Trump. 

Robert Redford, who is best known for starring in such movies as Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, The Sting and All the President’s Men, wrote an article for the December 11 issue of TIME magazine, which describes him as also a “director, producer and environmental activist.”

As yesterday’s throwdown in the White House press room made clear, relations between the President and the press corps are as bad as they have ever been during the Trump administration. But as the Media Research Center has been documenting all year, the media have approached the Trump presidency with unrelenting hostility. Sometimes, the jokes and stories write themselves, folks. On Monday morning’s MSNBC Live, host Stephanie Ruhle turned to none other than fake news anchor Dan Rather to decry President Trump’s tweet calling for a “FAKE NEWS TROPHY” and smugly defend the news media as the one “red beating heart of freedom and democracy.”

CNN’s Reliable Sources host Brian Stelter invited on HLN’s S.E. Unfiltered host S.E. Cupp for an illuminating 22-minute podcast released Friday dealing with conservative distrust in the news media. It featured solid points by Cupp and complaints by Stelter that mistakes in the media have unfairly been “amplified by some right-wing outlets as if the entire press is culpable.” 

The Washington Post’s Tuesday-only Health & Science section often features thought-provoking items about environmentalism and mental health, but this edition featured pro-LGBT columnist Steven Petrow interviewing fake news anchor Dan Rather about his “renaissance” and fandom at age 86. 

If the media genuinely wants to turn around their reputation for reporting fake news, here’s an idea: Stop turning to disgraced news anchors, fired for reporting on fake sources, as your experts on “truth-telling!” But as per usual Wednesday night, CNN predictably brought on Dan Rather to give his words of wisdom on Tuesday night’s election results.

Disgraced former CBS News anchor Dan Rather has been making his media rounds to promote his new book, entitled What Unites Us. Tuesday morning he appeared on Morning Joe, to discuss the NFL protests, the lack of “civility” in our country, and what patriotism means to him, to an enraptured MSNBC panel.

In a staggering example of the press lacking any self-awareness, on Monday’s NBC Today, co-host Savannah Guthrie fretted over “a recent poll that said nearly half of people think the media make up stories” and unbelievably turned to disgraced former CBS Evening News anchor Dan Rather to suggest ways in which the news media could “enhance its own credibility.”

When liberal journalists lecture us about how much more they revere quality reporting than we do,  just observe how they treat disgraced Dan Rather. On Friday night's All Things Considered, NPR anchor Ari Shapiro treated Rather as the closest thing we have to the Cronkite Myth, the national anchor of our patriotism. 

Sunday marked Ana Marie Cox’s last Talk interview on the back page of the New York Times Sunday Magazine. It was the usual loving treatment of a liberal. But Cox’s self-proclaimed “gentle magic” was woven solely to benefit liberal figures; Republicans were constantly bashed in her interviews with liberal figures, while House Speaker Paul Ryan was an undignified "stooge" and "media welfare queen."

On Monday morning, CNN further debased itself into the terrain of mockery, unveiling a new advertisement clearly aimed at President Trump by arguing that “some people might try to tell you” that an apple is actually a banana. The 30-second ad began airing on CNN shows and launched with great fanfare by the network, their employees, and fanboys.

Longtime CBS news anchor Bob Schieffer pushed back on President Trump’s characterization of his network and others as “fake news” during an appearance on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, October 9th. Schieffer blasted online media sources like Facebook, arguing that the public needs to understand that only the “mainstream media” vets, and fact-checks before printing or broadcasting their news…
