Each night of the Republican National Convention (RNC) and presumably for this week’s Democratic National Convention (DNC), MSNBC has and will continue to offer live coverage through 2:00 a.m. Eastern time and in the final two hours, some strange and wacky moments came about for those of us watching at NewsBusters. 

Chris Matthews on Monday could barely restrain his excitement at the Democratic National Convention, declaring it a “sluggers row of wonderful sentiment.” Who did the MSNBC host love more? After a week of trashing Republicans as racist and “mutinous,” a giddy Chris Matthews ended MSNBC’s GOP convention on a high note, eagerly anticipating the way more “fun” Democratic convention next wee. Late Thursday night, Matthews enthused, “Philly’s going to be fun. I think it’s going to be a lot more celebrities, a lot more Hollywood, a lot more bold print.” 

First it was MSNBC warning viewers before showing anti-Hillary Clinton buttons. On Thursday, Chris Matthews and Chuck Todd agreed that mentioning the names of big cities is racist “coded language.” Matthews previewed Donald Trump’s convention speech and was horrified over the presence of words such as “Baltimore” and “Washington D.C.”

As has been customary, the level of craziness emanating from MSNBC’s Chris Matthews grows exponentially by the late evening and early Thursday morning was no different as he ruled that the Republican National Convention (RNC) chanting “lock her up” concerning Hillary Clinton was akin to what one would hear in Buenos Aires, Argentina or Caracas, Venezuela. 

Suddenly, Chris Matthews has the best interests of Republicans at heart. The MSNBC host, who has previously trashed Ted Cruz as Lucifer, on Wednesday appeared shocked at the Republican’s convention speech. A horrified Matthews chided, “What was really out of line tonight, I think politically and historically, was for Ted Cruz to basically snub the candidate for president.”
