NPR's Schiller Denies Liberal Bias, But Station's Content, Policies, B
March 7th, 2011 7:09 PM
National Public Radio chief Vivian Schiller issued a flat denial Monday when asked whether NPR consistently puts a liberal spin on the news.
NPR strains to offer "journalism that presents no particular bias," Schiller claimed in a speech at the National Press Club. And far from being the bastion of liberalism its critics insist, Schiller claimed that NPR gets "a tremendous amount of criticism…
Blast From the Past: Backdoor 2011 Porker Moran (D-Va.) Used Expletive
March 7th, 2011 6:19 PM
Democratic Congressman Jim Moran of Virginia caused a bit of a stir last week when he said on CSPAN's Washington Journal program that, as paraphrased by Daniel Strauss at The Hill, "lawmakers are getting around the new ban on earmarks by convincing Obama administration officials to fund their pet projects."
Those who have followed Moran's less than illustrious career recall something he said…
WaPo Worries Republicans 'Seek[ing] More Limits on Voters
March 7th, 2011 5:00 PM
"State Republicans seek more limits on voters" warned the front page Washington Post headline for Peter Wallsten's March 7 article.
"GOP says the push targets fraud; Democrats call it a power play," added the subheader. The online version of the article had a decidedly less-loaded headline, but Wallsten's article skewed towards the Democratic complaint (emphasis mine):
Name That Party: Unemployment Comp Claim Edition
March 5th, 2011 2:29 PM
On the Chicago Sun-Times's Web site today, it's reported that former Cook County Board President Todd Stroger has applied for unemployment benefits. Stroger had been earning $170,000 at his job, and his former employer is appealing his eligibility. Not mentioned, of course, is the fact Stroger is a Democrat.
A little more than four years ago, Stroger was endorsed by then-Sen. Barack Obama (D-…
March 3 'Media Mash': Media Celebrate Leftist Blogger, Runaway Wiscons
March 4th, 2011 11:15 AM
Leftist blogger Ian Murphy is "a liar who broke every rule of journalism," with his phone call to Gov. Scott Walker in which he pretended to be conservative donor David Koch, NewsBusters publisher Brent Bozell told the audience of last night's "Hannity."
The Media Research Center founder was reacting to CNN having practically promoted Murphy's prank by awarding him the title "Most Intriguing…
Overnight Engine-Starter: Guess the Estimated Damage to Wisconsin's St
March 3rd, 2011 11:59 PM
I heard this on Mark Levin's show earlier this evening. He was referring to a Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel blog post by the paper's Don Walker.
The question is: What is the State of Wisconsin's estimate of the amount of damage done to the Wisconsin State Capitol after roughly two weeks of non-stop protests?
The answer, and a link to the JSonline.com story, are after the jump -- No fair…

March 3rd, 2011 12:28 PM
Shahbaz Bhatti, Pakistan's federal minister for minorities and that government's only Christian, was assassinated yesterday on the streets of Islamabad. Bloomberg News is reporting that the Pakistan Taliban is claiming responsibility for the shooting:
As many as four men ambushed Shahbaz Bhatti, a 42-year-old Christian, yesterday as he left home without a security escort, Geo television…
Dear AP: Haley Barbour Is Right About Obama's Gas-Price Wishes
March 3rd, 2011 12:16 PM
Philip Elliott at the Obama White House's state-compliant wire service reports, and distorts (bolds are mine):
Barbour says Obama cheers for higher gas prices
Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour, a potential presidential contender, accused the Obama administration Wednesday of favoring a run-up in gas prices to prod consumers to buy more fuel-efficient cars.
Barbour cited…
Flashback: New MSNBC Host Martin Bashir Once Spun FL Community as 'Ca
March 3rd, 2011 11:50 AM
MSNBC host Martin Bashir, whose new 3pm show premiered on Monday, has quickly adapted to his new home. Over three programs, he's lauded the "outstanding" coverage of left-wing anchor Ed Schultz and also featured the liberal Rachel Maddow and Dylan Ratigan.
Perhaps this shouldn't be too surprising. On August 7, 2007, as co-host of ABC's Nightline, Bashir derided Ave Maria, a planned Catholic…
Hillary Clinton Claims Al-Jazeera Puts American Media to Shame
March 2nd, 2011 9:37 PM
Is Rush Limbaugh’s fear of a state-run media coming to fruition?
Hillary Clinton spent the morning on C-Span defending the State Department’s need for funding, because she feels private media in the U.S. has fallen woefully behind the likes of Al-Jazeera, the Chinese, and Russia.
Via Business Insider, Clinton said:
"Al Jazeera is winning. The Chinese have opened up a global English…
AP, NPR Erroneously Tag Westboro Baptist as 'Fundamentalist' Church
March 2nd, 2011 11:58 AM
Today's Supreme Court ruling in Snyder v. Phelps is proving to be yet another occasion for the media to falsely describe the homosexuality-fixated Westboro Baptist Church as a "fundamentalist" congregation.
The Associated Press, MSNBC and NPR.org have been among the news outlets using that tag for the Topeka, Kansas, organization that protests funerals of soliders, celebrating their deaths by…
Jon Stewart Hits Conservatives and Wealthy for Focusing on Cuts for Te
March 1st, 2011 3:46 PM
Jon Stewart's latest anti-conservative screed included a satirical defense of top income earners and a tongue-in-cheek plea for teachers to pay their fair share, in the wake of the Wisconsin protests. On Monday's "Daily Show," the Comedy Central host offered a shallow assessment of the entire Wisconsin situation with not a single critical look at the state's public sector unions.
Stewart's…
NYT's Lipton Teed Up, Hit Out of Park by Powerline over Cooked AFP-Koc
March 1st, 2011 3:19 PM
The Left has been making quite a bit of conspiratorial hay over the following paragraph Eric Lipton wrote at the New York Times on February 21 ("Billionaire Brothers’ Money Plays Role in Wisconsin Dispute") about the alleged degree of involvement Koch family members have allegedly had in the Wisconsin public-sector union showdown:
Even before the new governor was sworn in last month,…
Stern to WaPo: Labor Movement 'Had Socialist and Communist Tendencies
March 1st, 2011 2:06 PM
Retired Service Employees International Union President Andy Stern was recently interviewed by Journolist organizer and Washington Post staff writer Ezra "the Constitution is confusing because it was written more than a hundred years ago" Klein.
In response to a question from Klein about "the animosity between unions and workplaces" (that is what Klein says he said), Stern made an interesting…
