Media Bias Debate

Needless to say, the media were besides themselves on Friday in turning up the outrage machine at Donald Trump for dragging out his birtherism statement and aside from his lack of an apology for perpetuating the asinine belief about President Obama, few were willing to own up to their role in going along with Trump’s media circus.

We at NewsBusters have chronicled some head-scratching promos in the last year by MSNBC but the most asinine and fawning one began airing recently featuring Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton telling MSNBC host/NBC News correspondent Andrea Mitchell at a press conference that she loves her and resembles “my kind of woman” who’s “indefatigble...I’ll tell you what.”

When it comes to MSNBC’s Hardball host Chris Matthews, one constant throughout the last decade plus with him has always been an obsessive dislike of former Vice President Dick Cheney and his family with Wednesday offering the latest installment as he admitted to his guests that it “makes me happy” and even “mirthful” that Colin Powell’s leaked e-mails showed a similar sentiment.

In the hours following President Barack Obama’s campaign stop for Hillary Clinton on Tuesday afternoon in Philadelphia, MSNBC’s Chris Matthews was beyond giddy at the “magical” stump speech but he was later joined by Brian Williams, who declared on The 11th Hour that Obama will go down as “a communicator who can deliver” enthusiasm “unlike anything we have ever seen.”

According to a new poll by Gallup, Americans’s trust in their media fell to a shocking new low. Asked if they believe the press will “report the news fully, accurately and fairly,” a meager 32 percent answered in the affirmative. Gallup’s Art Swift noted, “This is down eight percentage points from last year.” 

In reaction to Univision chief news anchor Jorge Ramos’ repeated statements in the media opposing the election of Donald Trump, an effort is underway to both highlight Ramos’ compromised coverage of the election, as well as bring pressure to bear on Univision to remove Ramos from the network’s news anchor desk between now and Election Day.

Neal Gabler, who for decades has claimed that the press is consistently biased — against the left! — typed up a 1,000-word screed which appeared at Reuters Tuesday afternoon decrying what he described as "sub-news," and how it has been irresponsibly "driving the (Hillary) Clinton health rumors." As if MSNBC’s Hardball host Chris Matthews had done enough fawning over liberals in President Obama on Tuesday night, he dialed up the eye-rolling worship once again with the help of former Salon columnist Joe Conason to tout the latter’s new pro-Bill Clinton book and oozed praise for how the Clintons are driven by their desires “to change the world” for the better.

Right from the start of Tuesday’s Hardball on MSNBC, it was clear that host Chris Matthews was in a giddy mood thanks to President Barack Obama having stumped hours earlier for Hillary Clinton. Of course, he was enamored from the get-go exclaiming that Obama was “back” and rhetorically asked viewers if they saw Obama’s Philadelphia rally so he could assert it included some “magical” lines.
