In a surprising change of pace, ABC on Friday actually covered an Atlanta man who defended himself with a gun to stop a carjacking. NBC's Today completely ignored the story, despite a four-hour running time. CBS This Morning allowed a scant eight seconds on the story.
Good Morning America news reader Amy Robach revealed, "And caught on camera: A would-be carjacker in Atlanta picking the wrong car owner to mess with. That's because he carries a gun for protection, which he used to force the suspect out of his car and then face down on the ground until the police arrived to make the arrest."
The Atlanta Journal Constitution revealed:
An Atlanta man held a would-be carjacker at gunpoint until police arrived and arrested the suspect, according to police.
Hashim Fannin, the car owner, says the attempted carjacking occurred just after he had pulled into a parking spot at a Family Dollar in northwest Atlanta earlier this month. The man slipped into the passenger seat when the car's doors automatically unlocked, Fannin said.
“He told me, ‘You know what this is,’” Fannin said.
In 2013, the Media Research Center's Geoffrey Dickens found an eight-to-one slant in the networks promoting Barack Obama's push for more gun control. Dickens discovered a "staggering imbalance" and concluded, "Stories advocating more gun control outnumbered stories opposing gun control by 99 to 12, or a ratio of 8 to 1."
