Christian Toto says the new Daily Wire movie Run Hide Fight: Infidels is like a Red Dawn for wokeness in academia.
"Infidels has little interest in subtlety," he wrote on his site Hollywood In Toto. "It’s a bare-knuckled assault on a Hollywood ecosystem that ignores reality and the Modern Left. “Infidels reminds us of all the stories that should be told but aren’t."
In an interview with me and MRC Video content creator/movie buff Nick Kangadis, Toto explained the Daily Wire team is doing something entirely different, making a movie poking fun at academia run wild, at radical Islam and the “red-green merger” of Marxists and Islamists.
In July, the Los Angeles Times ran a piece titled “Hollywood will stop fueling racism when audiences demand better.” One co-author was Sue Obeidi, who runs a "Hollywood Bureau" for the Muslim Public Affairs Council. The other was illegal-immigrant journalist Jose Antonio Vargas. Neither of them had seen the movie, but they compared it to the 1915 film The Birth Of A Nation, in which the Ku Klux Klan were painted as heroes.
Film critics have been harsh. Todd Gilchrist at Variety described the Daily Wire movie as "More an epic act of trolling than a sincere creative endeavor." Rebecca Onion on Slate: "Ben Shapiro’s Company Made a Die Hard–Style Movie About College Israel Protests. It Is Every Bit As Deranged As You Might Think." On Bluesky, the lefties call it “xenophobic hateslop entertainment.”
Other notes on cultural developments from the Toto site:
-- The Ed Sheeran-Macklemore debacle, where a big-time pop star decided to add a washed-up white rapper to his concert tour, and the rapper has to speak at length about "Free Palestine." Some venues told Sheeran they didn't want Macklemore, and then most of Sheeran's other opening acts and band members boycotted Sheeran's concerts.
This includes a cameo by pro-Hamas kiddie entertainer Ms. Rachel, who like Macklemore has pledged to give a million dollars to Palestinian causes. The media demonstrate their spin by the words they use. They say “pro-Palestinian” and not ‘anti-Israel.” And certainly not “pro-Hamas.”
-- Sydney Sweeney spurred another wave of feminist outrage with her mostly-nude ads for Novig, a sports-betting site. The silliest part was the progressives pretending this was somehow devastating for female athletes, who had nothing to do with these ads in any way.
-- What is Greta Gerwig going to do with Narnia? Aslan the lion -- a metaphor for Jesus -- is a woman now (voice of Meryl Streep)? Gerwig is known for that overlong Barbie movie that the feminists loved so much.
-- Wokest movie review ever? A critic at RogerEbert.com wrote: “One Night Only,” director-producer Will Gluck‘s latest romantic comedy, is everything that’s troubling about the current conservative capitalist hellscape that is the United States of America writ large."
