CNN host Jake Tapper, who moderated the 2024 debate debacle for Joe Biden, reacted to snippets of Jill Biden’s CBS interview in a video posted on Thursday. "Doctor" Biden claimed that she wondered if her husband had had a stroke. No one saw a stroke in real time.
Tapper began: "’Now she tells us!’ That's the response from lots of Democrats to former first lady Jill Biden, finally admitting that her husband's debate performance in June 2024 was so bad that, in her words, she at the time was frightened that President Biden was having a stroke on stage."
“Admitting” is not the right word. That would match "Jill Biden, finally admitting that Hunter Biden was exploiting his father's name for cash." In this case, it sounds like she’s making up a story that doesn’t match reality. What wife who thought her husband was having a stroke would just sit and watch it?
Tapper, who performatively wore a Bruce Springsteen T-shirt for the Trump-hating CNN audience, said that’s not what actually happened at the time:
"I should also disclose that I was one of the two moderators at the debate, and after it, she and the president walked over to the table and they didn't act as if anything significant had just happened at all. They made polite chitchat. She certainly didn't act like somebody who was worried that her husband had just had a stroke.”
In his book Original Sin with Alex Thompson about the Bidens hiding the president’s cognitive decline, there was only this brief mention of the debate aftermath: “Jake didn’t know what to say and attempted to make small talk with the First Lady by showing her that he was wearing Phillies cuff links.”
So much for being a fact-chasing journalist in real time.
Reporters were just as emotional and panicked as the rest of the Democrats about what needed to happen next. In his video, Tapper did show Jill Biden gushing over Biden’s debate performance in a rally afterwards. "You answered all the questions!" In the book, Tapper and Thompson called it “infantile praise.”
CNN host Abby Phillip slammed the Democratic Party after Jill Biden's admission on Wednesday.
I appreciate that we now get to see at least some version of a truth that she’s putting out there, because I think, yeah, the conversation should be had about the deceptiveness that was behind this. Like, that’s the conversation that I think ought to be had.
The autopsy that the Democrats did didn’t delve into that, but it should. What kind of political system covers that up and makes it OK to lie to people about what everybody knows is true?
This fails to acknowledge that CNN and the rest of the elitist media had spent about four years covering up Biden's increasing inability to be president. In the weeks before the debate debacle, Brian Stelter was hammering the "cheap fakes" spin, and here was Abby Phillip:
“The November choice is between two old men. We know that. But tonight, I want to talk to you about the Joe Biden that Republicans want you to see and the pipeline of videos that aren’t telling the full truth. And those videos are probably right now clogging the public consciousness as Americans start to think about their votes.”
