One would think that if the hometown residence of the Vice President of the United States had its windows smashed by someone wielding a hammer, who was subsequently arrested by police after being detained by Secret Service agents, that it would make the three nightly network newscasts. But since it was an attack on JD Vance's Cincinnati dwelling, ABC and CBS skipped it.
A year ago, police detained two men dressed in black hanging around Kamala Harris's home in Los Angeles, but no charges were brought, no crime committed. So, not as newsworthy as Vance.
According to reports, just after midnight on Monday morning, William DeFoor, 26, allegedly busted up several windows of the Vance home, as well as a vehicle, and is facing federal charges. The Vance family was not present at the time. NBC Nightly News found room on an admittedly busy news night, to relay parts of the story. Host Tom Llamas had this lead-in:
LLAMAS: In Ohio, authorities have arrested a man accused of damaging Vice President JD Vance's home with a hammer. Kelly O'Donnell has been following this for us tonight. Kelly the suspect breached a security perimeter?
O'DONNELL: That's right, authorities say the 26 year old man was armed with a hammer when he approached the Vice President's personal residence in Cincinnati and he shattered windows. The Secret Service also said that he damaged one of their vehicles but he did not get inside the house. The Vances had returned here to Washington hours earlier. William DeFoor is being held on local charges including vandalism. Right now no motive has been identified. The suspect has a court-documented mental health history. The Vice President said he appreciates the well wishes but wants less attention about this, noting that he and his wife try to protect our kids as much as possible from the realities of this life.
O'Donnell left out the specifics of DeFoor's previous arrests. Reportedly, in 2023, for trespassing at UC Health's Psychiatric Emergency Services building. He was found not competent to stand trial and charges were dismissed. And in 2024, he was charged with two counts of vandalism for breaking a front window to a Hyde Park business. Records reportedly show that DeFoor was granted "treatment in lieu of conviction."
She also left out this from The New York Post, which reveals that DeFoor "is allegedly the son of a prominent millionaire family, and appears to have been going by 'Julia' in recent weeks." The story also says that Defoor's father donated thousands to Kamala Harris’ failed presidential campaign in 2024.
Still at least NBC reported the attack. Over on CBS Evening News, newly minted anchor Tony Dokoupil apparently couldn't squeeze in a mention of the attack, but had a full minute for Lakeview Oregon, which decided not to raise taxes for needed funds, but rather they put out a nude calendar called "Outback Naked."
DOKOUPIL: ..It's called outback naked. Yours for a $25 donation to the town... thanks to some artfully placed power tools and flower pots and the like, the mostly middle-aged and elderly models are still safe for your television. But the plan is working, by the way. They have raised more than $13,000, that would have been taxes...The presentation is called why granny got naked... For the money, of course. And that's another day in America. I can't believe they let me keep that line.
Neither can I.
Over on ABC's World News Tonight, Host David Muir had room for a rescue, the price of weight loss drugs and the NFL coaches who have already been fired.
MUIR: Tonight, the daring rescue of two women trapped on the edge of a steep cliff in California... A paramedic helped move the women to a safer location on the rocks and then on to that rescue helicopter... Now to those popular weight loss drugs. Tonight for the first time a GLP-1 medication is now available in pill form. Novo Nordisk introducing its' Wegovy pill... Some patients could see a copay of $25 per month. Without insurance, some could get the drug for $149 a month...When we come back here tonight, Black Monday, they call it for a reason. The NFL head coaches, who have already been fired tonight."
They ended the broadcast with a minute and a half feature on a family surprising their 92-year-old grandfather, which is a lovely story, but says nothing about the attack on the home of the man who is a heartbeat away from the Presidency.
The PBS News Hour offered 30 seconds on hammering Vance's house.
There is no excuse for not at least doing the story the way NBC did it, without mentioning the fact that DeFoor may be identifying as a female, and his wealthy father is a Dem donor. With that information now out there, you can be sure the liberal media will run as far away from this as they can.
