Both ABC and NBC on Thursday night and Friday morning skipped rabid leftist George Soros’s ranting in Davos that Donald Trump is a “threat to the world” and close to a “mafia state.” Only CBS — and for a combined 29 seconds — bothered to report on the influential billionaire’s latest comments.
On Thursday’s CBS Evening News, White House correspondent Margaret Brennan reported on the President's trip to the economic forum in Switzerland. She explained, “Not all business leaders are receptive to President Trump’s message. Tonight, legendary investor and well-known liberal philanthropist, George Soros called Mr. Trump a threat to the world and said U.S. institutions are the only thing preventing him from turning the country into a mafia state.”
On Friday’s CBS This Morning, she repeated: “Not every financial leader has been receptive to the President. Legendary investor and well known liberal philanthropist George Soros called Mr. Trump a threat to the world.”
Not noted by CBS is that Soros also hyperbolically worried that “the survival of our entire civilization is at stake.”
Credit to CBS for at least identifying Soros as a liberal and for informing them as to what the shadowy businessman is up to. Journalists have a habit of downplaying and ignoring his activities.
The Washington Free Beacon’s Joe Schoffstall on Wednesday revealed that the investor spent $16.2 billion in 2017 on his Open Society project. Schoffstall, who previously wrote for the Media Research Center (MRC), explained:
Between 2002 and 2012, the policy center reported spending a total of $19,120,000 lobbying Congress and agencies, an average of $1.9 million on lobbying per year. The most Soros had spent on lobbying prior to last year was $12.4 million in 2014.
The MRC’s Aly Nielsen in December noted ho Soros-funded journalism came to seven states, as a result of support for ProPublica. Perhaps that could account for some of the journalistic silence on the powerful liberal?

But, Norah, largely the reception has been a warm one for the President and the officials he brought with him, many of whom who have been attending Davos for years, back when they were business executives.
