As NewsBusters previously reported, Chris Matthews on Wednesday asked Comedy Central's Stephen Colbert, "When are we going to have the book we've really been waiting for, 'Killing O'Reilly?'"
On Fox News's O'Reilly Factor Friday, during the "Pinheads of the Week" segment, Imus in the Morning executive producer Bernard McGuirk called Matthews "a bitter, spittle-spewing psycho" (video follows with transcript and absolutely no need for additional commentary):
BILL O'REILLY , HOST: OK, you, Watters, have chosen Chris Matthews.
JESSE WATTERS, FOX NEWS CORRESPONDENT: Yes.
O'REILLY: Roll tape.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
STEPHEN COLBERT, COMEDY CENTRAL HOST: Why didn't you call it, "Killing Tip and the Gipper."
(LAUGHTER)
That really moves --
CHRIS MATTHEWS, NBC NEWS HOST: When are we going to have the book we've really been waiting for, "Killing O'Reilly."
(LAUGHTER AND GASPING)
(END VIDEO CLIP)
O'REILLY: Ooh, they were jeering up.
WATTERS: You hear that gasp in the audience.
O'REILLY: They were jeering there. That's called bears audience.
WATTERS: That's right. So, you know, if you're liberal and you lose audience, it's a Comedy Central show, --
O'REILLY: Yes.
WATTERS: -- it's like missing a two-foot putt.
O'REILLY: It is called bears audience. And I don't know if people know that they bus them in from Venezuela.
(LAUGHTER)
O'REILLY: They have to go around and come right across, very liberal audience. Now, I didn't take offense of that. He's just making a jest, right.
BERNARD MCGUIRK, EXECUTIVE PRODUCER 'IMUS IN THE MORNING': Well, I would say half-jest.
O'REILLY: Half-jest. Really, you think Matthews wants to see me dead.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
MCGUIRK: I wouldn't put it past him. He's a bitter, spittle-spewing psycho, this guy, as you know.
WATTERS: OK.
(LAUGHTER)
MCGUIRK: And make people very jealous of Bill O'Reilly right now.
O'REILLY: Well, there is good reason why he and his cohorts want me dead. Ratings.
MCGUIRK: Right.
O'REILLY: I mean, come on.
MCGUIRK: That's right.
WATTERS: "Killing Ratings." That's the new book.
MCGUIRK: They hate Bill O'Reilly.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
O'REILLY: Yes. I'm not doing real well for their business model.
