There must be something in Bill Maher's contract with HBO that requires him to make at least one joke about the former Alaska governor on every show.
In his monologue beginning the most recent installment of "Real Time," the host said Charlie Sheen's childish, needlessly defensive, nonsensical behavior is like Sarah Palin on coke (video follows with transcript and commentary):
BILL MAHER: What a week, right, people? I mean, this week Americans turned on their television sets and were witness to a pathetic disaster slowly unfolding. And then after the Oscars were over…
[Laughter and applause]
MAHER: …then Charlie Sheen started to give interviews and it never stopped. And America said forget Wisconsin, forget the Middle East. Charlie Sheen is coming off a coke high, it is funny. It is funny that he keeps waving a paper saying he passed a drug test. How is that good for his image? It just mean he's like that sober?
He said, one interviewer said, "Are you bi-polar?" He said, “I'm bi-winning. I win here and I win there.” So yes, it's childish, it’s needlessly defensive, it makes no sense. So if you ever wondered what it would be like if Sarah Palin was on coke.
[Laughter and applause]
Makes you wonder what's more childish and nonsensical - the joke or the audience eating it up like it was the funniest thing they had every heard.
On the other hand, Maher and his moronic followers were indeed made for each other.
So he's got that going for him - which is nice.
