THE View: Whoopi Shouts Down Any Idea that Renee Good Was in the Wrong

January 13th, 2026 3:52 PM

As the moderator of ABC’s The View, on Tuesday, Whoopi Goldberg acted as an enforcer of the fact The View only allowed THE view; shouting down two other co-hosts who dared to even hint that far-left, anti-ICE radical Renee Good was in any way in the wrong before getting neutralized by the ICE agent she tried to run over. Additionally, co-host Joy Behar searched for a legal basis to attack ICE agents and claimed the shooting was part of plot by President Trump to declare martial law to end elections.

Co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin dared to acknowledge that there were other people (not on the show) who were saying Good had used her vehicle as a weapon against Agent Jonathan Ross, but Goldberg shouted her down by claiming the only “fact” that was allowed to be spoken was that “he had no reason to shoot her.” She then pivoted to claiming ICE agents were all racists:

FARAH GRIFFIN: It can get very murky. In this case of Renee Good, they're talking about this vehicle becoming a deadly weapon against -

GOLDBERG (interrupting): Right, but this is because -- this is -- this is --

[Crosstalk]

GOLDBERG: You know what, let's stick to the fact. The man shot the woman, he had no reason to shoot her!

[Crosstalk]

GOLDBERG: Let me just get this because it's important for me to finish this. You know, when you say I suspect that you're here illegally, based on what? Did you hear me speaking Greek with my Greek friends? Does that mean you can walk up on me and say, ‘I don't know that you're here legally?’

BEHAR: They use race!

Goldberg went on to seemingly suggest that ICE and the federal government were trying to intimidate people into not going out to protest them: “What we're being told basically is, either you go out and you protest and you know something could go wrong, or don't go out and do anything. So that's -- those are your choices. Those are your choices.”

Co-host Sara Haines was the next to draw Goldberg’s ire after she touted how Good had attended training put on a far-left, anti-ICE group. Goldberg shouted over her when Haines hinted that Good might not have followed the training and put herself in a dangerous situation:

HAINES: Right. But it could go into -- so what it is is they're saying -- they're trying to train these protesters that you don't want to be in danger -- you can protest but try to stay away from those --

GOLDBERG (interrupting): Didn't matter! The guy shot her anyway!

Those out bursts from Goldberg weren’t the only insanity being shouted on the set.

In addition to shouting that “[ICE] shouldn't be there in the first place,” Behar claimed the shooting was all part of a plot by Trump to invoke martial law and take over the country. “I really worry about that Trump is looking for this kind of pandemonium to go on, like you just described, so he can declare martial law or something - and also cancel the midterms! Watch out for this guy,” she told the audience.

Behar was also upset that the protesting Iranians who were trying to overthrow their oppressive Islamic regime were getting attention over the ICE shooting. “My favorite part about this is that Trump is worried about protesters in Iran. He's ready to go and take on the government of Iran to protect the protesters in Iran. But not in this country,” she decried.

At one point, Behar was interested in knowing if, and in what circumstance, protesters could legally attack ICE agents:

BEHAR: What happens if one of these ICE agents harms a protester, you know, they just rough with them? Are the others who are protesting allowed to help him?

WHOOPI GOLDBERG: No.

SUNNY HOSTIN: No.

GOLDBERG: They're not. No.

HOSTIN: Unfortunately --

BEHAR: So, who would help that person and prevent harm?

“You don't want to interfere with the detainment,” Hostin had to explain to her.

JOY BEHAR: What happens if one of these ICE agents harms a protester, you know, they just rough with them?

SARA HAINES: Which they've already done.

BEHAR: Are the others who are protesting allowed to help him?

WHOOPI GOLDBERG: No.

SUNNY HOSTIN: No.

GOLDBERG: They're not. No.

HOSTIN: Unfortunately --

BEHAR: So, who would help that person and prevent harm?

ALYSSA FARAH GRIFFIN: He could offer medical aid after the fact.

HOSTIN: You don't want to interfere with the detainment.

FARAH GRIFFIN: So, I want to be careful with protesters to say you absolutely have a constitutional right to show up, to use your voice, to protest peacefully, and also to, if you're unlawfully searched you're able to claim your 4th Amendment rights.

HOSTIN: You can videotape.

[Crosstalk]

[Applause]

GOLDBERG: Wait, wait

FARAH GRIFFIN: But it's even different than that. What I’m saying. This may be people who are lawfully U.S. citizens. We saw this video of a Target employee who was a U.S. citizen.

But what I'm telling people is, you need to exercise judgment because while the law may conclude after you have your day in court that you were right, to pause, to videotape there is going to be this moment where the person in charge is that law enforcement officer, and it could escalate very quickly if you are not taking precautions and stepping back when they are moving forward.

I think people need to be extremely careful or we're going to see more --

[Crosstalk]

BEHAR: They shouldn't be there in the first place!

GOLDBERG: Well, first of all, it's your right! It's your right to film.

HOSTIN (to Behar): You mean ICE.

BEHAR: ICE.

GOLDBERG: It's your right to be there. It's your right to be there. What we're being told basically is, either you go out and you protest and you know something could go wrong, or don't go out and do anything. So that's -- those are your choices. Those are your choices.

HAINES: Well, they have some rapid response network training which the woman who was killed was also doing some of these trainings, where you're taught, you can whistle at the ICE agents, you can warn the community, you can video them. They said legal experts and -- I think Sunny, we talked all morning about this, so I think you'll see this.

They say it gets murky when you blocking roads or physically stopping people. It doesn't make anything they did right -

HOSITN: Because it could be a traffic violation.

HAINES: Right. But it could go into -- so what it is is they're saying -- they're trying to train these protesters that you don't want to be in danger -- you can protest but try to stay away from those --

GOLDBERG (interrupting): Didn't matter! The guy shot her anyway!

GOLDBERG: As they are building the case against her now, Ms. Good, you know, they're seeing who she's been associated with. You know.

BEHAR: Blame the victim.

GOLDBERG: You know, this is what they have been doing. This is what they did with Comey. They couldn't figure out a way to get him so they fired the people and then hired somebody new and they still couldn't get him. This seems to be the new playbook.

So, if you're going out to protest, know what you're doing. Don't get in the way. Don't get in the way. If you need to visually -- it is your right to visualize –

[Crosstalk]

to video.

Get yourself, go to the ACLU, get yourself a copy of the Constitution so you know what your rights are. It's going to be a little harder because we're not sure what ICE’s rights are because they seem to not be as clear.

BEHAR: They keep violating the Constitution in this country! The government.

HOSTIN: Yeah, the Constitution as far as I'm concerned is still alive and well and they should be complying with it.

GOLDBERG: They should be but they're not! We'll be right back.

(…)

BEHAR: My favorite part about this is that Trump is worried about protesters in Iran. He's ready to go and take on the government of Iran to protect the protesters in Iran. But not in this country. America First. What happened to that?!

HOSTIN: That is remarkable because for those people that aren't following that story, you know, Iranians have been protesting in the street which is something you generally don't see in that country.

BEHAR: And lot have been killed.

[Crosstalk]

HOSTIN: Over 500 of them have been killed so the notion that this President is somehow now concerned – the same president that said he wanted permission to shoot protesters in the legs is now – wants to somehow intervene in geopolitics in Iran.

BEHAR: Who is following him anymore? Who likes him? Who? Who are you? How much more does he have to do?

(…)

11:19:54 a.m. Eastern

BEHAR: I really worry about that Trump is looking for this kind of pandemonium to go on, like you just described, so he can declare martial law or something - and also cancel the midterms! Watch out for this guy!

HOSTIN: Under martial law, you won't have elections.
