If the Shoe Fits: Joy Behar Whines The View Cast Are Called ‘Libtards’

September 20th, 2023 1:55 PM

During Wednesday’s edition of The View, ABC co-host Joy Behar openly whined that people on the right call her and the rest of the far-left cast “libtards” and make other "terrible remarks about people like us." Behar’s bellyaching came 24 hours after she and staunchly racist co-host Sunny Hostin insisted that Republicans, and those who supported the Second Amendment, have the blood of children on their hands.

During a segment about singer Taylor Swift and actress Sophie Turner bonding over a mutual ex-partner, Behar quipped that “it's entirely normal for friendships to be based on mutual hatred.” And her example was “the MAGA crowd, the base, they hate the same people that Trump hates.”

“They call us the libtards or something,” she decried. “They have these terrible remarks about people like us. And they say we're like the enemy, and you owned the libs.” She also complained, “They don't care that they're not going to get abortion rights!”

But while she kvetched over people saying mean things about them, she spent part of Tuesday’s show gushing about comedian Larry David saying something she agreed with, that Republicans are for children being murdered in school:

This was four days after the Uvalde shooting, and Larry David said to Elon Musk, “Do you just want to murder kids in schools?” And Elon Musk said, “I'm anti-kid murder.” And then Larry said, “Then how could you vote Republican?” That's what happened.

She praised David for “seiz[ing] the opportunity” because “Republicans, whenever there is a school shooting they don't want us to talk about it. ‘This is not the time to talk about it.’ Well, when is the time to talk about it?

If it wasn’t clear enough where Behar stood, she got into it with co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin when she argued it was “a bridge way too far” to say all Republicans have blood on their hands:

FARAH GRIFFIN And I think this is a bit of an intellectually cheap argument to say, “You are a Republican, therefore the blood of children is on your hands.” I think that is a bridge way too far –

BEHAR: Well, what has the Republican Party done recently to stem the tide of guns out there?!

FARAH GRIFFIN: We actually passed a pretty significant bipartisan gun safety bill--

BEHAR: Did they get rid of AR-15s?!

Hostin agreed and vented directly at Republicans. “And if you vote Republican, I believe that you are complicit in that unless you are actively working day and night to change that within your party!” she shrieked.

She also put AR-15s in the same category as nukes and chemical/biological weapons, calling them “weapons of mass destruction.”

True to form, they closed out Wednesday’s show with a supremely cringy anti-gun rights song by MILCK and Natasha Bedingfield.

JOY BEHAR: This was four days after the Uvalde shooting, and Larry David said to Elon Musk, “Do you just want to murder kids in schools?” And Elon Musk said, “I'm anti-kid murder.” And then Larry said, “Then how could you vote Republican?” That's what happened.

WHOOPI GOLDBERG: This is at a wedding. At the table.

BEHAR: You seize the opportunity. How often is Larry David going to be sitting next to Elon Musk, who -- and it's a legitimate question. You know, Republicans, whenever there is a school shooting they don't want us to talk about it. “This is not the time to talk about it.” Well, when is the time to talk about it?

SARA HAINES: Definitely not a wedding.

BEHAR: So Larry stepped up and talked about it four days after the thing. Good for him.

ALYSSA FARAH GRIFFIN: This is my issue with it – And by the way, I think Larry David might be the single funniest living person. I’m a huge fan. I recently saw him on the upper east side. I’m glad I didn’t say hi because he would not like me because I'm a Republican. But here’s my issue—

BEHAR: That's not true. He's not like that.

FARAH GRIFFIN: Here’s my issue: There are a lot of things that I think are very legitimate criticisms of Elon Musk, platforming neo-Nazis, stoking anti-Semitism, stoking conspiracy theories. He’s – actually, my understanding is for background checks. And I think this is a bit of an intellectually cheap argument to say, “You are a Republican, therefore the blood of children is on your hands.” I think that is a bridge way too far –

BEHAR: Well, what has the Republican Party done recently to stem the tide of guns out there?!

FARAH GRIFFIN: We actually passed a pretty significant bipartisan gun safety bill--

BEHAR: Did they get rid of AR-15s?!

FARAH GRIFFIN: No, they did not.

BEAHR: Okay.

FARAH GRIFFIN: But he supports background checks, as do I, and it's not fair to say, “Because you vote with one party, therefore blood is on your hands.” I think it just – It contributes to the polarization.

SUNNY HOSTIN: I think you take the opportunity to call people on it. AR-15s are weapons of mass destruction that should have no place in anyone's hands in this country.

[Applause]

And if you vote Republican, I believe that you are complicit in that unless you are actively working day and night to change that within your party!

JOY BEHAR: But it's entirely normal for friendships to be based on mutual hatred. Think about it.

[Laughter]

SUNNY HOSTIN: That’s true.

BEHAR: Okay? I mean, I'll get some blowback for this but I think the MAGA crowd, the base, they hate the same people that Trump hates.

HOSTIN: Yes.

BEHAR: They call us the libtards or something. They have these terrible remarks about people like us. And they say we're like the enemy, and you owned the libs. That is the whole basis –

SARA HAINES: That’s a good point because it’s less –

BEHAR: That's the whole basis of their success with Trump. Okay? They don't care that they're not going to get abortion rights!
