Whoopi: ‘Our Grandfathers Went to Fight’ WWI and WWII to Prevent January 6

August 2nd, 2023 6:29 PM

Former President Donald Trump was indicted for a third time so, of course, the Cackling Coven of ABC’s The View had to put in their rusty two cents, spouting off with dumb comments they thought sounded profound in their heads. Among them was moderator Whoopi Goldberg and her bizarre claim that America twice sent young men off to war in Europe to prevent something like January 6, 2021, from happening.

After playing a video of Special Counsel Jack Smith announcing the indictment, she bloviated that it wasn’t a laughing matter despite all their cackling: “Now, you know, we sometimes have -- we chuckle. You see us chuckling or stuff, but really this is really sad. This is a really sad time in this country because I don't think anybody -- even the oldest person in this room can ever remember anything like this ever happening in the United States of America…”

Goldberg then claimed that “our grandfathers went to fight in World War I and World War II, great-grandfathers to ensure this kind of thing did not happen here.” The “this kind of thing” she was talking about was January 6.

Of course, Goldberg didn’t know why WWII was fought. Accurate history from that era continued to elude her after her repeated false claim that the Holocaust wasn’t about race.

Later in the segment, she would double down on her insane claim about why those wars were fought when she was lecturing people who wear “MAGA hat[s]” and “blinders”:

We want to also point out that these are the facts. These are facts, no one is making this up. This is what happened, so you can keep your MAGA hat on and continue to put blinders on, but the truth is the truth is the truth. The facts speak for themselves. And because we've sent people to war to fight for our right to be the country that we are, we cannot allow these lies to continue.

For Joy Behar’s part, she sang Smith’s praises and suggested he couldn’t be criticized for anything: “Jack Smith, let me tell you just a little about him…the guy is above reproach. Nobody has a bad word to say about him. His life is about ethics and morality. He doesn't play with nonsensical people like Donald Trump…”

CNN legal analyst Elie Honig was in the audience because faux-conservative Alyssa Farah Griffin was promoting his book on the show. Behar looked to him to confirm their hope that Trump would be in prison soon. But he had to burst their bubble:

BEHAR: Can we just ask Elie if he thinks that Trump will go to jail? Just yes or no.

HONIG: No. Sorry, but, no. Doesn't mean he won't get convicted, but I don't believe he'll go to jail. Certainly, not before the election. If you’re counting on that – [shake his head and trails off].

“He's going to slide again? He’s going to slide again,” a dejected Behar said.

Whoopi Goldberg’s ridiculous claim about why WWI and WWII were fought was made possible because of lucrative sponsorships from Dawn and Target. Their contact information is linked.

WHOOPI GOLDBERG: Now, you know, we sometimes have -- we chuckle. You see us chuckling or stuff, but really this is really sad. SUNNY HOSTIN: Well, it’s the largest criminal investigation in U.S. History.

GOLDBERG: Yeah. Say that one more time.

HOSTIN: It's the largest criminal investigation in U.S. History. Can you imagine that? And now Trump is part of it.

GOLDBERG: Yeah, we're living it. We're living it.

HOSTIN:  It really is something. I mean, I would like to say I predicted that this was going to happen.

JOY BEHAR: Jack Smith, let me tell you just a little about him. He is an international war crimes prosecutor. This is a guy in case you don't know this, I don’t know if you do or not. He is -- He was working at The Hague to bring to justice war criminals in Kosovo and during the war in the former Yugoslavia, Serbs and Croats and those. And he is not playing.

HOSTIN: No.

BEHAR: I heard somebody and I can't remember who it was who said the guy is above reproach. Nobody has a bad word to say about him. His life is about ethics and morality. He doesn't play with nonsensical people like Donald Trump…

BEHAR: Can we just ask Elie if he thinks that Trump will go to jail. Just yes or no.

ELIE HONIG: No. Sorry, but, no. Doesn't mean he won't get convicted, but I don't believe he'll go to jail. Certainly, not before the election. If you’re counting on that – [shake his head and trails off].

HOSTIN: I'll take that bet, Elie.

HONIG: Okay. I know you have one with Alyssa. I'll double on it.

HOSTIN: All right.

ALYSSA FARAH GRIFFIN: We hope you’re wrong but you’re –

BEHAR: He's going to slide again? He’s going to slide again.
