The View: Pro-Lifers Against Trans Surgeries Are ‘Killing Our Children'

June 9th, 2023 3:37 PM

Fortunately, Friday’s edition of ABC’s The View was pre-recorded and thus spared America their hot takes on the second indictment of former President Trump. But in its place, the cast collectively launched into unhinged screeds defending drag shows, proclaiming the virtues of so-called “gender-affirming” care, and smearing pro-lifers by suggesting their refusal to placate to a mental illness meant they’re “killing our children.”

The most off-the-rails cast member was moderator Whoopi Goldberg, who would randomly spiral out of control in rage-fueled fits. “You are telling me that I don't know my family. You are telling me you know my kid. I’m telling you: you don't know my kid. You don’t know what I'm going through, you don’t know what I need, and you're not asking me,” she shrieked, condemning opposition to so-called “gender-affirming” surgeries that leave children mutilated and at risk for other health complications.

Addressing opponents directly, she accused them of “scaring my kids” and “making them feel like they don't deserve to be here and that they don't deserve to live!” “This is on your hands! This is on your hands!” she screamed.

Goldberg’s tirade peaked as they went to a commercial break when she declared: “You are killing our children!”

The lunacy also extended to defending drag shows with hypocrisy by simultaneously arguing that no one was bringing kids to drag shows and that drag queen story hours were great events.

Faux conservative co-host Ana Navarro suggested the Republican Party’s electoral strategy was about “driving people to the polls through fear, through anger, through angst, through the stress” and with “the paranoia and hysteria that drag queens are coming for your children.”

Blowing a fuse, Navarro shouted: “Drag queens don't even like children! They don't tip and they don't drink, you know! They don't tip and they don't drink!” Which drew applause and laughter from the liberal audience.

“And to me, this is so contrary to the idea of parental choice,” she argued in favor of parents bringing their kids to drag shows. “No child is driving themselves to a drag show!”

The wires appeared to be crossed on which narrative they were using because co-host Sara Haines falsely asserted: “People aren’t taking kids to drag shows.” But she did immediately admit, “There are drag readings, where it's children's reading material, and they're reading and entertaining them because drag is a performance art.”

Navarro admitted that “one little girl” had been spotted at a drag show, but suggested it was overblown. Meanwhile, the 2023 MRC Bulldog Award winner, Libs of TikTok, has done tremendous work putting a spotlight on not only children being exposed to drag shows, but performing at them as well.

Haines also appeared to slip up as she discussed how she doesn’t let her young kids watch movies rated PG yet. “I love a drag show. Doesn't mean my kids belong there right now,” she said. The slip came as she explained why she wasn’t taking her kids to drag shows yet, catching herself in the process: “But that’s not because of the drag queens, it’s because of the sexually explicit – of the language and things. That’s all.”

On so-called “gender-affirming” care, Haines downplayed the practice as just “minor surgeries” and “breast reductions.” She also tried to dismiss how often these kind of procedures were carried out. “The infinitesimal amount of people getting minor surgeries. For example, 203 top surgery procedures were done on minors in 2021. 4,700 teenagers, 13 to 19,” she rhetorically scoffed.

Haines also flaunted her hatred for pro-lifers, suggesting they didn’t practice what they preached: “This the party that claims to be pro-life, yet the lives living here need the help they get, they say none.” She even had the nerve to proclaim that pro-lifers “need to educate themselves on what things they're saying.”

ANA NAVARRO: Well, now they're back to the same anti-gay playbook. In 2024, the issue is transgender, because we're passed gay marriage. That ship has sailed. And it's this idea of driving people to the polls through fear, through anger, through angst, through the stress, through the -- you know, the paranoia and hysteria that drag queens are coming for your children.

People, let me tell you this, drag queens don't even like children! They don't tip and they don't drink, you know! [Applause] They don't tip and they don't drink!

And to me this is so contrary to the idea of parental choice. No child is driving themselves to a drag show! And so I would say Ron DeSantis -- first, to all the drag queens, for the month of June, pride month, let’s celebrate by changing your names to Rhonda Santis.

[Applause]

But a – if – if –if –if – If taking a child to a drag show is such endangerment to that child, why aren’t you penalizing the parents for putting the child in danger? Leave the kids alone, man!

SARA HAINES: People aren’t taking kids to drag shows. There are drag readings, where it's children's reading material, and they're reading and entertaining them because drag is a performance art.

NAVARRO: No, no. There was one parent that showed up with one little girl and he’s been trying to close down--

HAINES: But in general, people just don't do that. I don't let my kids watch PG movies yet. I love a drag show. Doesn't mean my kids belong there right now. But that’s not because of the drag queens, it’s because of the sexually explicit – of the language and things. That’s all.

HAINES: There's a lot of talk about, “They're going to come and perform a surgery.” The infinitesimal amount of people getting minor surgeries. For example, 203 top surgery procedures were done on minors in 2021. 4,700 teenagers, 13 to 19, had breast reductions. So, are we going to talk about this surgery, and this irreversible surgery being so bad when the percentage of people being affected? This the party that claims to be pro-life, yet the lives living here need the help they get, they say none.

GOLDBERG: But none of this is anybody's business!

[Applause]

[Crosstalk]

GOLDBERG: But this is the part that I don't understand. You are telling me that I don't know my family. You are telling me you know my kid. I’m telling you: you don't know my kid. You don’t know what I'm going through, you don’t know what I need, and you're not asking me.

You're not saying, hey, we're going to give you some money to make sure we have places where if your child comes and says, “listen, I need to talk to you, I can help you get to where you need to be!” You're not helping me. You are scaring my kids, you're making them feel like they don't deserve to be here and that they don't deserve to live! This is on your hands! This is on your hands! This is what we're dealing with!

SUNNY HOSTIN: I also read Elliott Page's book. And I think that book – I hope everybody reads it, it's going to save lives, it’s going to explain what he went through, and there's one thing that he wrote about when he got his period when he was with his father skiing. And I thought I was terrified when I got my period at 11 years old. And I was with my dad. I didn't want to tell him.

Imagine being in the wrong body, imagine being born into a girl's body when you are a boy, and you are experiencing that, and you could have blockers, you could have had that and have avoided that experience.

HAINES: They have been using puberty blockers on CIS gender patients since the 1990s. So, people need to educate themselves on what things they're saying.

HOSITN: And why not do it for these kids?

GOLDBERG: But stop trying – You are killing our children! You are telling our kids they don't belong. They are not welcome. And God bless this table. I am going to fight – We are going to fight for everybody's right to be themselves here in America, because that's the promise of America. Be who you are. We'll be right back.
