History According to The View: No Negativity in The World Before Trump

May 11th, 2023 5:08 PM

In the beginning, when God created the heavens and the earth, the earth was a formless void and darkness covered the face of the deep, while a wind from God swept over the face of the waters… Then Donald Trump became president. That’s basically how the cast of ABC’s The View has treated history this week as they fell victim to their own warped revisionist history; including wild fictions like politicians being trustworthy and negativity not existing in the world before Trump became president.

In the midst of their jovial conversation about New York Republican Congressman George Santos getting arrested and arraigned on multiple serious charges on Wednesday, moderator Whoopi Goldberg rained on their parade a little bit. “We're having a good time with this, but it's really sad. It is really sad,” she opined.

Proclaiming “This is not normal behavior,” Goldberg blamed it all on Trump. She even went to the ridiculous length to suggest politicians were trustworthy before he took office:

From when I was a little kid, adults always said, “Well, you know, you can't trust a politician.” You could always take that with a grain of salt. But now it's hard to trust a politician. And I put this squarely in his lap. I put it in you know who's lap.

She didn’t receive any pushback from anyone else at the table, including faux conservative Alyssa Farah Griffin. But she did get a “That’s a good point” from staunchly racist co-host Sunny Hostin.

Keep Goldberg’s doom and gloom in mind as we fast forward 24 hours to Thursday, and The View was claiming that Trump was the source of all the bad things going on in the world.

As they were melting down over Trump’s town hall on CNN the previous evening, co-host Joy Behar decried “his negativity.” “Everything is bad. We're in a disaster … Shut up with this negativity. We're sick of it,” she demanded. She was either oblivious to The View’s general attitude whenever they were talking about Republicans or just being a hypocrite.

Hostin chimed in to analyze the negatively and deduced that the “world is on fire” because of Trump. “I think we're in a much worse position because he was the president of this country,” she proclaimed.

But according to Behar, “He created the negativity” in the world. “He created this negativity,” Hostin agreed.

Goldberg did provide slight pushback as she proposed that Trump didn’t create the negativity but rather “just allowed it to flourish.” Co-host Sara Haines built off of her and said Trump “awoke” the negativity. “Well, he gave people permission who they are,” Hostin added. “Which is even more disturbing to me.”

The View’s attempts at gross revisionist history was made possible because of lucrative sponsorships from Macy’s on Wednesday and Purina on Thursday. Their contact information is linked.

WHOOPI GOLDBERG: We're having a good time with this, but it's really sad.

SUNNY HOSTIN: It’s so sad.

GOLDBERG: It is really sad. And I think one of the reasons that we're in this position, seeing someone that people voted for in this position is because we had you know who, who made all of this kind of behavior normal.

HOSTIN: That’s a good point.

GOLDBERG: This is not normal behavior. We all said from wherever -- from when I was a little kid, adults always said, “Well, you know, you can't trust a politician.” You could always take that with a grain of salt. But now it's hard to trust a politician. And I put this squarely in his lap. I put it in you know who's lap.

JOY BEHAR: Another thing that struck me about last night is his negativity. Everything is bad. We're in a disaster. P.S. Look how all gorgeous we all look, you know what I mean? Shut up with this negativity. We're sick of it. He says, “Oh, Central Park is filled with migrants.” No, it's not. When was the last time he was in Central Park? People in New York hate him! Don't come to Central Park!

ALYSSA FARAH GRIFFIN: Right.

BEHAR: You know? I mean, this constant, constant negativity.

BEHAR: My blood pressure was through the roof last night!

FARAH GRIFFIN: You were rage-tweeting.

BEHAR: I was wild last night!

SUNNY HOSTIN: We were rage-tweeting each other – texting each other.

The one thing I will disagree with you on, Joy, is he's being negative, because the world is on fire. I think we're in a much worse position because he was the president of this country.

BEHAR: He created the negativity.

[Applause]

HOSTIN: He created this negativity. And what I was so disgusted –

WHOOPI GOLDBERG: Wait a minute. I don't think he created it. He just allowed it to flourish.

SARA HAINES: He awoke.

GOLDBERG: He said, “Here, it's okay for y'all.”

HOSTIN: Well, he gave people permission who they are.

GOLDBERG: That’s what I’m saying.

HOSTIN: Which is even more disturbing to me.
